1. Mammoth Lakes Scenic Gondola Ride to the Summit
I have to say, kicking things off with the Mammoth Lakes Scenic Gondola Ride really does start you off on a high note – quite literally. Almost. Taking a ride to the tippy top of Mammoth Mountain in a gondola actually gives you insane panoramic views that I don’t think you can quite get anywhere else without, you know, hiking for hours. Is that right? When you get off at the summit, which is over 11,000 feet above sea level, you will feel like you are on top of the mountain! It might be a pretty special feeling, I must admit.
Once you get up there, and once you spend some time looking out over the sweeping vista of the Sierra Nevada, you could get yourself some snacks at the Eleven53 Cafe. Right? If that isn’t your thing, the Interpretive Center happens to be up there. Very cool for a quick peek to get to learn a bit more about the area’s geology and some of the wildlife. You see, right? Plus, there happens to be some cool hiking trails around up there – easy enough to do with normal shoes. If I can do it, you can, too. Really, the whole thing, from the views to the amenities up top, really makes it a nice trip to start the day.

2. Hot Creek Geological Site Visit
Want something a little, you know, different? You may really find the Hot Creek Geological Site really grabs you. Right? Basically, it’s only a quick drive from Mammoth Lakes, and it takes you to an otherworldly landscape where super-heated water bubbles to the surface. Basically. Picture it this way: steam rises into the sky, forming a dreamy kind of look with the mountains all around you. Right?
Walking around there gives you an experience like no other. I swear. Those hot springs are cooking, so you know you gotta stick to the paths – seriously. Trust me. In the winter season, the juxtaposition of the steaming water and icy banks is like seeing something on another planet. You have got to be careful, that is important. Apparently. If you’re just a casual person interested in seeing stuff, this place will blow your mind, or if you just want something unusual, Hot Creek gives that to you in spades. Really though.

3. Convict Lake Loop Hike
How about getting in that much needed exercise? You want to? Consider going on over to Convict Lake for a hike around the perimeter. Like. Trust me. Named for an 1871 prisoner escape, this picturesque spot presents a relatively flat and fairly smooth 2.5-mile trail. Is that right? I think it’s perfect if you’re trying to soak in the natural prettiness around these parts with no strenuous effort. What do you think?
Now, I have to tell you – this hike happens to be absolutely stunning, you see reflections of the mountains just kissing the lake, the granite peaks looming above everything are super picturesque. I will say. What happens is the lake looks so amazing that the pictures do no justice. Anyway, the path’s in nice condition. That really helps because I’m kinda clumsy sometimes. And, there happens to be spots for picnicking along the water. Now, whether you just like to go fast and hike, or slow down to smell all the roses, this trail might be the kind of outdoor break that you’re looking for. I am telling you.

4. June Lake Loop Drive
The June Lake Loop is one scenic road, it really, really is, it gives, like, seriously spectacular views and photo ops from start to finish. Absolutely. Really. So, the drive will wind you past four alpine lakes–June, Gull, Grant, and Silver–and through canyons. You see? Stop a moment. If you happen to feel that a drive seems easier for you than, I do think this journey may appeal to you. Is that right?
Each and every season on June Lake seems to, actually, add a different view; maybe the fall looks insane when the aspen display goes off with golds and reds. Seriously insane. There seems to be plenty of viewpoints too along the way. Of course, for pictures that should get framed, they are perfect. As a matter of fact. The whole loop, like, you could technically drive it in a lot less time, but you might like giving yourself half a day just to drink in all the views at a more relaxing rate. Yeah?

5. Mono Lake South Tufa Area
Now, to make it an even five, take the drive up north just a bit to see Mono Lake and its very famous tufa towers. Did you know that the strange, almost spooky-looking formations there happened because of mineral deposits interacting with the alkaline lake water? As a matter of fact. Visiting this unique spot should feel like a very odd nature field trip. Just be prepared.
When you walk right out along the shores, this almost feels a little strange, right? Very bizarre, I suppose, since these tufa towers stick right out of the water; actually, it’s really awesome with the water mirroring the sky, you know? It does kind of have a quiet eeriness about the place, you see? Wildlife can be found around too! You just may catch some cool birds hanging out close by because Mono Lake’s an area where migrating birds touch base often, and there are great photo possibilities there too. Yeah? Check out what South Tufa Area holds in its treasure trove, you might appreciate all the bizarre, natural displays it puts up just for you! So great!
