Mystic, Connecticut, might be this neat coastal town known for its maritime history and charming vibe. You get there and right away you’ll feel transported back in time, as a matter of fact. This is mainly due to the preserved 19th-century ships at the Mystic Seaport Museum. You get to walk around on these old ships and picture what life was like way back when, you know. That place, it really brings the past to life.

For a really awesome lunch, you should hit up Mystic Pizza – that is, the pizza place made famous by the movie. The pizza? Really quite great, and that small-town vibe just makes that lunch extra special. Afterward, stroll all along the Mystic River, popping in and out of the little shops that just sell everything from homemade crafts to just upscale nautical decor. The drawbridge right there, it goes up about every hour, that is, so sticking around to watch that is always quite a cool sight.

From gentle paths by the lakes to harder climbs that take you up rocky hillsides. You know, there’s really that perfect trail there for any hiking ability.

I typically like that hike to the fire tower at the top of just the park’s highest peak. The view from way up there? Absolutely super spectacular, actually! From up top you see miles and miles of forest, and it kind of just feels like a totally different world, you see. Afterwards, find a nice spot beside Lake Welch to have that picnic and kind of chill.
