So, you find yourself in San Gil, Colombia, which is really the adventure sports capital, isn’t that right? That makes it like your playground for thrill-seekers and nature fanatics! Anyway, you may know that the town itself is like, quite interesting, but the real magic, right, is found just outside of it. Right now, let’s get this rolling with some unforgettable day trips which, actually, show off just a little of what this incredible region is offering.
1. Barichara: A Step Back Into Beautiful Colonial Times
That one trip has to be like, Barichara, because it’s just this visually stunning colonial town, pretty close to San Gil. That place is almost as if someone, well, just kind of plucked it right from a storybook! Very well known as, like, maybe “the prettiest little town in Colombia,” Barichara has cobblestone streets and houses painted white that, obviously, really scream postcard material.
What To Do: Stroll down its serene roads, or soak up the history at the churches which, actually, make Barichara something really unique. Or maybe even stop by the workshops of local artisans. Or, how about get yourself involved in something artistic yourself?
How to Get There: Take, maybe, like a bus or taxi which, usually, leaves from San Gil. The journey is just so beautiful because you see gorgeous scenery, plus you can get there in, usually, around 45 minutes, and then, you see that pretty countryside right outside the window. What could be better, I’m asking?

2. Chicamocha Canyon: Scale Beauty And Epic Views
Arguably, one trip really will take your breath away as much as the Chicamocha Canyon will! It is bigger, arguably, that the Grand Canyon and has stunning views that will knock your socks off. Just so you know, the Chicamocha Canyon looks so different and makes you feel like you’re in a completely new place!
What To Do: Take a cable car which is how you can go across the canyon, very conveniently giving some very outstanding, sweeping views; or go paragliding just to get something a bit more extreme; very similarly, check out the Parque Nacional del Chicamocha which, I tell you, has a ton of attractions there itself.
How to Get There: Ride like a bus, perhaps, which might leave you at the San Gil terminal which, really, will go to the canyon. Getting there might take you, maybe, close to two hours. It will also give you, by the way, an opportunity to see other places of land outside of the city.

3. Waterfalls of Juan Curí: Nature’s Refreshing Power
Like you didn’t know, Colombia just doesn’t have too many waterfalls to see. Just to see that pure and unspoiled view can feel kind of good! But then, you could go a little outside of San Gil, very similarly, see that Cascadas de Juan Curí can do you some justice!
What To Do: Very unusually, just simply take a dip at one of nature’s beautiful watering holes! Jump right from one of the platforms if you are a real thrill seeker. By the way, make sure to also stroll through the lush rainforest.
How to Get There: Go there with a bus. Similarly, a taxi to Curí—it only takes an amount of time, around, usually, about 30 mins—is not like going all too far. And guess what? Hiking is, by the way, a great choice, but can be a challenge because of the geography!

4. Guane: Like Walking in A Museum
Then, how about one other, you know, special experience that I am sure is a hit or a miss, if you travel even a bit further than Barichara is that little place that locals affectionately know as Guane. Seemingly, many say, this place could be thought as your portal because the place is, at least as most would suggest, stuck within the sands of time because that would be about right!
What To Do: You are likely going to experience taking a moment at the archeological site and the museum there, and don’t even get me started about getting your very, very fantastic picture on the, so thought of, famous stone path. That said, all you need is to grab a bite from a little restaurant there!
How to Get There: To the delight of those there, just taking one of those bus rides to Barichara could arguably make your, somewhat, travel longer, but what should matter is your patience if the said destination to the former may arguably take a little long when on the bus or a taxi!

5. Zapatoca: ‘The City Of Climate’
Then what if it is time for a small-city stop at somewhere else? Arguably one other great trip would be to head to Zapatoca; now, while it is up on that higher part from most small communities there, its atmosphere is arguably better since it has great climate.
What To Do: Why don’t you roam there to one of those coffee plantations, but when you need an adventure that you wouldn’t forget about, there is also that Cueva del Nitro. That can either keep you waiting to go there the next chance you might find or turn you off due to its deep darkness. Still there are plazas and a church there worth your visit, really.
How to Get There: Like before you need to consider that San Gil happens to have a number of bus lines with services which move folks very conveniently into Zapatoca. However, since it is roughly two hours from San Gil. Plan to wake early if the plan is to save most of your entire day to wander in and around town, ok?
