Top Northern Hungary Cruises: Sailing Tours Reviewed

So, like, if you are looking for a pretty special way to check out Northern Hungary, then a cruise or a sailing tour might just be the thing for you. Northern Hungary has this seriously cool network of rivers and lakes, like the famous Danube and the pretty Tisza, that really show you some of the area’s best bits from, too it’s almost, a rather different view. We are going to check out, in a way, five super-rated tours that give you a great look at Northern Hungary from the water.

1. Danube Bend River Cruise from Budapest

The Danube Bend is, in some respects, one of the really scenic sections of the Danube close to Budapest, and a river cruise here tends to be, very, a pretty neat idea. These tours often give you a full day to see, you know, visually attractive little towns like Esztergom, Visegrád, and Szentendre, and each place comes with its own cool vibe and story. It seems they, typically, include transport, a guide to show you all the cool stuff, and, of course, lunch. Is that right?

Esztergom, for example, is really known for its large basilica, that just dominates the skyline and offers, arguably, views, too it’s almost, which stretch for miles. Then, Visegrád has its medieval castle, that brings you back, like, centuries. Finally, Szentendre is, really, a super lovely town with artist studios, cool museums, and twisting little streets which are almost asking you to get lost in them. 2. Sailing on Lake Balaton from Siófok

Okay, if you want something, really, a bit more chill and want to be involved a little bit more yourself, then sailing on Lake Balaton tends to be just perfect, by the way. Siófok, you see, is on the shores, very, of the lake and it is one of the main spots for getting out on the water. Sailing tours that leave from here sometimes give you the chance, finally, to, well, learn how to sail, help the crew, or just sit there and enjoy the sun, honestly. Depending on who’s doing the sailing trip it may have meals, drinks, and even swims in the lake, and the lake is pretty refreshing on a balmy, as a matter of fact, afternoon.

Being on the lake lets you see, too it’s almost, its scale and some of the other villages and bits of landscape surrounding Balaton. Tihany Peninsula is one of the must-see spots; so its old abbey and the views are apparently super stunning and it makes, usually, for great photos, and you are likely to have one hanging about already somewhere. It seems it’s not just a boat trip; so it’s an introduction to the culture of the lake area, its landscape, and chilling out Hungarians’ style, as I was saying.

3. Tisza River Cruise from Tokaj

Tokaj isn’t only a area pretty known for wine; so it’s, very, too it’s almost, a spot where you can get out on the Tisza River and see the place, seemingly, from a completely different view. So the Tisza is, arguably, more kind of quieter and shallower than the Danube, that, you see, means you are, probably, able to get into areas that are usually missed. The trips from Tokaj tend to go, honestly, through bits of the Tokaj wine area, which look super green and luscious during summertime.

When on, you know, a cruise like this, keep a lookout, alright, for different types of wildlife and loads of water birds, by the way; so the area really teems with nature, so to speak. Apparently some tours, seemingly, even come with wine tastings, you see, from the local wineries, that tends to turn your boat trip into, virtually, a combo tour, which includes wine and, clearly, wildlife. The feeling is pretty much, well, tranquil, that lets you just, in a way, slowly take in the beauty of the area and, basically, chill.

4. Memento Park Cruise in Budapest

Okay, then there are things like the Memento Park Cruise in Budapest, and they give you something pretty unique in relation to tourist trips, as I was saying. It turns out that as well as being on the Danube you can get, usually, views of pieces of, too it’s almost, Soviet-era history as you, apparently, travel by Memento Park, like. You are likely to learn, just a little, regarding Hungary’s past during the Soviet times and it does add, you see, another perspective, literally, to looking at the area by water.

While being on a boat, like your Danube cruise boat, it’s kind of amazing to look at statues of, apparently, Communist leaders slide past while learning things on the sound system that you might never, usually, hear about when on more kinds of normal tours around Budapest, and this kind of combines relaxation on the water with insight into past times. This cruise apparently makes sure you’ve actually gained a pretty unusual angle on how Budapest developed, seemingly.

5. Aggtelek National Park Boat Tour on the Baradla Cave Lake

As a matter of fact, for something very, very out of the ordinary, you could always get on, really, a boat tour that heads through a part of the Baradla Cave system which lies, usually, within Aggtelek National Park, and they tend to show off just how super varied Hungary can be, alright. Baradla Cave is rather famous for its visually attractive rock things like stalactites and stalagmites, and it’s pretty fascinating when parts of it are accessible, finally, by boat on an underground lake, clearly.

While being pootling, still, on an underground boat, that, very, really, shows, very, you the special nature of this, kind of, undergound cave arrangement, and its echoey environment actually feels super, well, mystical. Because, basically, the lights point up interesting rock designs and the silence, you see, except from the drips and your guide, makes you feel completely separate from, clearly, the outside area. Very likely the boat trips are, seemingly, on shorter bits of the lake but it gives you this rather fascinating taste for, you know, the geology found within this area that’s on a, literally, world scale.
