Ghent, that amazing Belgium city, is that place that really does know how to charm visitors with its medieval architecture and, seemingly, a really cool atmosphere. You know, actually, while Ghent is famous for its culture indoors, there is something to be said for getting out into the city. It’s just the thing to do! You know, sometimes the best way to really see what makes a place special, is, you know, to explore its open spaces. 1. Boat Tour on Ghent’s Canals
Like your classic experience in Ghent is a boat tour! As a matter of fact, these boat tours of the canals, that flow all over Ghent, give a different feel of the city. We get a chance to see Ghent from the waterways. It almost has a magical feel. It offers views, basically, of those awesome medieval buildings. You are passing underneath the famous bridges, like that Saint Michael’s Bridge that offers that sweet panoramic sight! 2. Exploring Citadelpark
Need a break from city crowds? Citadelpark is that quiet, kind of scenic escape! It’s, basically, what your lungs crave, when the cobblestone streets have you beat! Created in the 19th century, on, actually, where a citadel used to be, that park offers something very serene. The big, green open spaces make the site perfect for, arguably, your regular chill session. Whether you want to enjoy a family picnic, have your morning run, or actually chill, sitting, watching life happen, that is, actually, why I come! By the way, do checkout the flowerbeds and, certainly, some old trees. Basically, these will grab your eye if that sounds neat to you! 3. Cycling Through Ghent’s Outskirts
So, wanna explore around Ghent, you know, a bit beyond that city center, by bike, alright? So many tours provide bikes and routes so anyone can check that area out. Ghent offers amazing bike routes! I was very amazed! What that actually entails is routes pass past the city, going to all those picturesque villages, past those nice meadows, and along those canals. Now, what about that Drongengoed Abbey, for one, where its pretty scenery offers views, not forgetting that history! 4. A Day at Blaarmeersen Recreation Area
Need something? Like to spend a day swimming or kayaking? Like you can check Blaarmeersen, actually, as a choice! About the city you have an easy spot for sun, sand, and other outdoor activity! Like this old sand quarry became a recreational area, meaning, typically, you’ve got nice lakes for swimming! Along with, actually, beaches perfect for sunbathing, by the way. Kayaking! Not a bad idea to get in some time kayaking or, perhaps, even paddleboarding to experience what Ghent has to give! People that are very outdoorsy will be satisfied if that is your need! 5. Walking Tour of the Graslei and Korenlei
Not that you like strenuous stuff, these tours take folks, sometimes, around those must-sees, namely, Graslei and Korenlei! Actually, these medieval spots, found with what once were guildhalls, now offer cafes and sites to photograph! If you were to slowly roam on those spots on foot, actually, will kinda put one in that Ghent environment! Many architecture pics will make your trip enjoyable in many pictures! If that old feel is on the itinerary, just know, these walks just might feel cool to anyone. Also, walking by day vs nighttime just provides for completely differing scenes! A different viewpoint depending on sunlight is provided by the tour! Anyone wanting pictures or just that historic stroll could consider that tour!
