3. 17-Mile Drive Bike Tour

Okay, so picture this: the 17-Mile Drive. Just picture the views but you can get away from the tour bus groups in their packed buses. Obviously the scenic road is like one of California’s postcard spots and stuff. Basically, instead of driving it, what about biking it? Actually it’s an open air exploration kind of. Clearly there is nothing more enjoyable, or something like that. Still, with this guided tour, you can take your time soaking in spots like the Lone Cypress, actually.

What makes this trip cool is that biking allows you to notice little nuances other people typically overlook. We could probably talk about the crazy big houses here or the cool birds nearby! But there is more to the location that many people fail to enjoy. This bike tour makes that kind of thing a bunch easier and, naturally, you see different perspectives you could easily miss in a car, nevertheless.

4. Point Lobos State Natural Reserve Walking Tour

Point Lobos definitely does a great job setting aside the touristy buzz of Monterey and Carmel. Actually this tour’s for those really wanting the outdoors, as a matter of fact. This nature preserve holds way more stories than just being pretty and green. Of course, if you only visit and view it as “just another state park” you could miss all sorts of other hidden details, alright? Still this is probably best explored on foot so you get the scents, okay? Then you get a good feel for why this spot earned so many designations and praise, really.

It appears this tour digs really deeply into the stories behind the spot’s geology. So in fact this may include the original inhabitants, finally. Obviously understanding how the area came together seriously adds, say, a whole layer of richness to appreciating its majesty. But the natural diversity actually attracts animal nerds as well!

First I should tell you, that some guests come specifically for a chance to spot sea otters and harbor seals! Next I will share this spot also boasts extremely rare plant life and a variety of migratory birds and, well, that gets people geeked, apparently. Naturally if you’re bringing your binoculars, alright, your guide might point you towards less obvious birds overhead and such, naturally! They really might know where all the animal hangouts actually happen to be, right?

So if you’re picking this one, definitely dress for all kinds of weather, just a little. Of course being on the coast you could quickly shift between warm and cold depending on what the breeze is doing. As I was saying you want to have a jacket available, as a matter of fact! 5. Monterey Whale Watching Tour

You know, while it seems obvious, Monterey Bay happens to be pretty amazing for sea life! What it boils down to? Well this Whale watching trips that will definitely get you out onto the open sea and, sure, it just plain feels thrilling, too! Any list for sightseeing in the Monterey area absolutely should not skip this tour group experience and stuff, next. Oh also the trip is actually on a boat so bring sunglasses and keep that sunblock flowing, apparently!

These aren’t always specifically historical per se. In fact it depends on who does the narration! Now I should be specific. Yet many tours actually involve a knowledgeable narrator who’s almost ready to talk to guests about whale migration! They can tell you stories of historical whaling, naturally. Next thing I knew I was able to hear some crazy facts about how the Monterey Bay itself first formed. And, also a couple salty tales from those who worked around here, you know.

The cool thing might be how it’s a real active tour with potential viewings of whales, that is. Actually other possible marine life like dolphins may swim next to you! As a matter of fact, just about every direction has stuff for the curious tourist. To be honest I am more of a “stay on land” kind of vacationer. But something about getting right there with nature did hit something for me. Now don’t think every tour can offer a whale encounter because that ain’t true. Sometimes the boats can motor along the whole trip without sighting, even!

Pro-tip: many of the bigger boats now have stabilization to handle larger waves! Honestly don’t think you can predict it based on sunny blue skies. And, of course you can buy seasickness medicine on deck if needed or, even more basically, before even stepping on. Seriously, they typically think of this kind of issue ahead of the boat trip!
