Columbus Art Scene: Top Cultural Spots & Hidden Gems

Columbus art

Columbus, Ohio, is just a spot that seems to be more than it lets on, right? Often overshadowed by larger Midwest hubs, Columbus happens to be home to a seriously blooming arts and culture scene. From pretty impressive museums to locally loved theaters and a surprisingly wide range of galleries, there’s, like, totally something for every kind of art fan. So, if you are checking it all out or a long time local wanting a refresh, I am going to show off the top spots that give Columbus its well-deserved place on the cultural map.

1. Columbus Museum of Art

Columbus Museum of Art

Okay, so first up is the Columbus Museum of Art. This location, a bit like a anchor for the art landscape in the city, houses a collection, spanning everything from late 19th and early 20th-century American and European art to some cutting edge contemporary work. So, one could totally lose a day wandering through galleries that hold masterpieces by artists, that might be people like Picasso, Monet, and local Ohio talents. The museum does a great job mixing its offerings, very, very often putting on themed shows and inviting pieces, that add different, changing dimensions to your visit, like your experience is likely different every time you go.

One of my favorite personal stories happened a few years ago while attending an exhibit focused, it seems to me, on local photographers. Just when I was about ready to head out, I ended up talking with a seasoned photographer who told me what his journey had been and he opened my eyes to just how stories are told, I mean totally different now, through photography. So, those spontaneous learning times show that, maybe it will get you, you know, something you were not even searching for and that made me like the CMA a bunch, anyway, more than before.

2. The Short North Arts District

The Short North Arts District

Then there is the Short North Arts District. Located between downtown and The Ohio State University, this place appears as one the major local creative hotspots in Columbus. Actually, the area seems like its always running, packed with galleries, studios, and public art installs, anyway they all display the creative effort from different artists. The galleries here have all sorts of styles from modern glass art pieces to time worn traditional canvases, which could be a good thing, just that, for an explorer, means something new waits at almost every door.

My preferred time to be out there may be for Gallery Hop nights — usually, its the first Saturday of each month — whenever the area becomes seriously electric with excitement. The roads stay open for walkers, stores remain open late, there exists live shows everywhere, and there appears to be a general vibe of community celebration happening here, right? Anyway, I’ve actually stumbled upon my favorite local painters as well as enjoyed some cool chats, it might be with some sculptors in a comfortable casual vibe. It may be something I have found which makes art even more appealing and accessible than it has seemed at museums. It could be great, right?

3. The Ohio Theatre

The Ohio Theatre

I guess now we should consider the Ohio Theater. Its name gets called “the Official Theater for Ohio,” and its something of an extravagant landmark within the Columbus arts community. Its grand auditorium appears designed through the 1920s with this decor like a mix of Spanish Baroque along with classic styles which give that luxurious feel during a concert or show. Viewing performances is more impressive as you would expect while in that space, right?

In a time when my husband and I were celebrating the wedding day, we managed reservations, very last minute to attend that orchestral concert at the Ohio Theater and sat just right near the front. So, what made a bigger deal for me happens to be, really, the architecture and visual attractiveness overall! And it added, I think something different compared with other theaters, while improving something extra that brought an increased sentiment and connection that nights experiences.

Imagine if you mix live tunes featuring sketched comedies featuring full on stage sets featuring all kinds for enjoyment.

In general I usually bring tourists there simply cause something always gets happening any period while, still it can’t fully come up the same two occasions thanks how differently most parts get put along plus reworked nearly, if, constantly every session year. That innovative design, along a group effort mentality where everyone offers into something important results on various things what will keep coming audiences curious so maybe that it builds one constant subsequent!
