But what’s maybe even cooler is that it makes such a great home base for zipping off on day trips. 1. Fort Henry: A Step Back in Time
Fort Henry is, arguably, one of those spots you really just have to see if you’re kicking around Kingston. It seems they built this old military fort back in the 1800s, it is almost to defend against, I guess, possible Yankee attacks. Seriously, they deck the place out with reenactors, too, so that makes it, kinda, like stepping right back into that time. They fire cannons, they march around in old uniforms, very, very really cool stuff! That it can give you a feel for what life used to be, too it’s almost is one of the most striking features, just imagine being a soldier stationed here!
It is almost Fort Henry now does way more than just show you old stuff. As a matter of fact they also do concerts and events throughout the year, very very cool stuff, right? Like, can you that is one can add in some culture along with your history, so to do the historic fortifications is definitely not the only choice? Plus, it gives you awesome views of Lake Ontario, I mean I love the landscape, as it should.
Oh, and here’s a hot tip: very, very stick around for the sunset ceremony. Seeing the fort lit up, and that cannon firing with the sun going down, seems that is like something you won’t forget anytime soon. Plus you like get amazing Instagram shots, or so I guess is like most think now! That to make Fort Henry a super memorable and very engaging choice it is important as the site provides something so very special.

2. Thousand Islands: Cruise into Paradise
Next up? The Thousand Islands! Arguably one of the coolest boat tours, or I have been known, a very very really need to do that day trip. Okay, so I mean it is not really a thousand, but get that name anyway. That sailing around is like drifting through a dream, that there is this chain of islands that straddle the US and Canadian border, you know? I guess these islands that I have passed by so many, so many years back always feel like seeing a hidden gem.
They range in size from teeny little rocky outcroppings with just a tree or two, all the way up to big islands with houses, very nice stuff like homes, actually! You will even see fancy castles, like Boldt Castle, which has, kind of, like, this super crazy love story that is not yet ended in full or like so very ended at all.
What I mean is really nice, that a lot of tour operators leave from Gananoque, so to like take the time and to grab lunch there is a great experience. Many different operators give a variety of trips, starting to like, you know, very slow and leisurely sightseeing cruises to the very extremely exciting speedboat rides. This will let you choose exactly your very perfect way you’re going to see the islands that day.
That to spend a whole relaxing time, in some respects in some parts of the day, I feel to spend very close with loved ones in such nice spaces is an experience to spend money and that I would do for a bunch more days like that one. Those tours I just will never forget, very and even to go for walks at the place, wow!

3. Gananoque: A Charming Waterfront Town
You know, Gananoque makes such a fantastic getaway spot, just a little hop from Kingston. Arguably very like one of those, well I should probably drive here type towns, but still! Nestled right on the St. Lawrence River, Gananoque gives, in a way, all of the small-town charm alongside the beauty of the Thousand Islands, so good times right?
That wandering around is the number one attraction, basically because with so many old buildings, some really fancy restaurants, and those unique little shops, seems that’s that a place of this location offers some really unique things. It is almost I spend too much on chocolates. They have plays too so it looks nice for nights, arguably speaking on behalf of most persons.
Here’s another thought, is that to get to know this waterfront location really well you can find kayaks and bikes to like hire for the day and go out and explore with such tools in nature is super great, you know? As a matter of fact go up to see the Thousand Islands Playhouse has such a nice reputation of being great for actors that like has a schedule with full days of enjoyment for tourists like us that only visit. You may actually enjoy going from a ferry to explore another islands. How could it not be an exceptional opportunity? This could be such an impressive place to go with others, like you know the whole family or people that like you actually can bare hanging out with a couple of days. Those old sites on top of the pretty views, very pretty!

4. Prince Edward County: Wine and Beaches Galore
Prince Edward County? Okay so, might be, if you like vineyards and beaches, but just a tad outside of Kingston, arguably speaking! They might not, actually it might totally feel like you’ve crossed over into, oh you know, almost, some sun-soaked region even! The County, you know so people call it The County, is actually quickly becoming the place where the wine goes, so it looks to me like every town goes with that. What will be more of such is, you know the place. This region offers amazing wineries, sand beaches and stunning restaurants so don’t spend all that money if you plan not to visit the places! Plus a few artisan shops for the experience that’s good for the tourist mindset.
You can do wine tours. The wineries often have some stunning vistas. Then spend time at Sandbanks is very important for this location’s success, actually Sandbanks has stunning high high hills on top of gorgeous beach shores. That you might plan just a bit of the stay during afternoons or sunrise with a delicious picnic! Seems I am a good planner as I have previously suggested and you did enjoy.
Very important is that they also have some really funky antique shops. That with this I feel, that to travel the PEC or Prince Edward County has always been very fun and amazing, very very special. But remember that you also might get back a bit slower, this trip.

5. Wolfe Island: A Rural Escape
Alright so, feeling a bit of wanting some place rural? That you can have, I mean you may go to, so very short and little ride, the Wolfe Island to be free to get rid of some city days. Actually is that this is quite the amazing ferry right and it gives some awesome sights of Kingston from the water that is for sure the very, very least and top priority item! Arguably I like boats.
Actually, Wolfe Island just feels like a different place altogether, especially since just a short trip from the city takes some time of pause to notice. Actually the ferry takes off right at the waterfront of downtown Kingston so, basically easy to like reach there with transport means if needed.
For the most rural activities, the Wolfe Island offers some locations, for instance hiking paths or you may watch migratory birds. What’s special is you may bike all day very long so that you feel connected and free.
I honestly believe with such amazing spots, with this very charming scenery and environment. That means is great to walk around in spring for like most tourist needs such as bird watchers etc and can almost mean great views. Those that just need a break can definitely love the great rural escape!
