Top Milos Historical Tours: See Ancient Wonders
Milos, with its interesting volcanic history and absolutely beautiful landscapes, happens to be also rich in culture, and very fascinating human history. That is why, exploring this Greek island is quite a treat for people wanting to explore ancient times. So, I thought I’d share my experiences looking into some top historical tours, giving you what are hopefully some handy recommendations for getting the most out of this unique island.
1. Ancient Theater & Early Christian Catacombs Tour
Okay so, the Ancient Theater and Early Christian Catacombs tour certainly stands out. So too it’s almost like stepping directly back in time, you know? Visiting the ancient theater really does give you a good sense of the past, that’s for sure. Just being there, where performances happened way back then, is very impactful.
What really caught my eye was the theater’s really nice construction, very beautifully set against the Aegean Sea. Imagine, like, performances with that backdrop, you know? Then, exploring the Early Christian Catacombs gave a whole different, a bit, point of view, almost; I mean, they’re a very stark contrast to the lively theater.
The catacombs, that is where early Christians worshiped. It’s really something to actually see where and how they expressed their faith, you know? Walking through those tunnels does leave you thinking. It feels extremely respectful and certainly educational, if you like your history that is.

2. Venus de Milo Discovery Site Tour
If you’re anyway into art, then touring the place where they found the Venus de Milo—now the statue at the Louvre—might be of interest, you know? That is a visit to remember, if that’s up your street that is! What I thought was rather neat was, the guide told us all about the history and drama around its find. It’s not every day you learn all that!
Hearing about how a farmer literally just dug up, sort of by accident, such a famous statue really makes you think, does not it? I found it hard to get my head around the find! You sort of imagine who made it, that the statue existed, but it’s a great story. So too it’s almost nice to get that background on the artwork plus see it in person too at The Louvre in Paris. It gives you the, slightly, bigger point of view. The tour guides seem very enthusiastic in describing it all, too. It’s an intriguing story about a famous object!

3. Klima Fishing Village & Ancient Plaka Tour
Combining the Klima fishing village with Ancient Plaka into just a tour is truly great. Firstly, wandering through Klima, seeing the colorful houses actually right by the water, does show how connected folks there are to the sea.
Walking around those narrow streets, and watching the fishermen actually working on their boats, provided a bit of real Greek life. This is then kind of followed up, afterwards, by going to Ancient Plaka, the island’s first capital, giving you two totally different points of view of Milos’ past. Visiting Plaka made me feel a bit like going back to another period.
Seeing those ruins, with that expansive ocean scene, very much gives you something to think about in connection with those olden times, it almost shows history itself, and where things happen. I definitely recommend that, that is great! The blend of the old capital together with the little seaside village gave you a very detailed Greek culture experience.

4. Sarakiniko Moonscape & History Tour
Going to Sarakiniko does feel like visiting the moon, if that makes sense. And if that could be worked into a historical visit then surely it should, that is what I believe! The scenery of those strange, milky-white rock shapes is so very different to just any regular shore. With this tour, though, the historical parts came up, so to speak, from stories regarding how it had once been a spot for pirates, you know.
It is nice hearing, so to speak, what went on at this other worldly place; it truly provides some depth to what you’re looking at and admiring. It feels good to learn how nature, very strangely, can combine together with human history. Very picture-worthy as well, and then hearing its stories! So that’s a bonus!

5. Full-Day Island Tour with Archaeological Sites
If you have only a short bit of time, taking an island tour that, sort of, hits various archaeological locations is certainly a great idea. They’re quite neat, in a way. These kind of, literally all-day, tours ensure you glimpse quite a lot, that’s for sure. I’m talking literally everything starting at ancient spots going on to more distant shores of the island. You have got to make it count.
It can be much like an ‘all-you-can-see’ event. I reckon I liked learning the histories and insights about a wide variety of locations without having to do everything on my own. With guides explaining stuff, they actually do well in knitting things together, the culture together with the human story.
These sort of expeditions normally actually also add some swim stops, I gather, as well so you get just a nice mix between history, sightseeing plus some, a little, downtime too! If one wishes to simply explore more in a one day, or maybe would prefer a ‘flavor’ regarding everything Milos possesses, maybe it may be the ticket. The full-day journey delivers an extremely well, well-rounded summary from everything from this remarkable isle!
