Montpellier Day Trips: Top 5 Unforgettable Escapes

So, you know, Montpellier is this great spot in southern France, alright? It’s almost got everything. Amazing food, sunshine that just, is that, makes you want to smile, and a super interesting history. Very, it’s very nice to walk about there. But what if, just a bit, you felt like you wanted to see what’s around Montpellier? That, actually, is where day trips come in, see? It’s like your home base from which to find all manner of places that the area can boast.

1. Aigues-Mortes: A Step Back into the Middle Ages

Now, that being said, Aigues-Mortes? You might say, in a way, it’s like going into some, in some respects, really cool time machine back to the Middle Ages. I mean, more or less, the whole place is just steeped in history, nearly, you see, surrounded by these incredibly imposing, like, city walls. Anyway, apparently, King Louis IX, also known as Saint Louis, he was the one who had the town built, or seemingly so. It was a way for him to have a port from which to, you know, launch crusades. It’s really rather incredible if you start, you know, wandering through the perfectly preserved ramparts. It’s just a little special! You might even start imagining what life would be like way back when, just seeing the towers and walkways. As a matter of fact, you really should try a guided walk around the walls. They tell you all the secrets and stories.

Of course, now we move to exploring inside the walls, yes? It’s actually a delightful maze of little streets, anyway. There are little craft shops and pretty cafes, and lots of places to eat, if you like your grub. The Place Saint-Louis is the center of town, or it certainly is, where you will find many people relaxing and sipping coffee. So, in fact, what also makes Aigues-Mortes, like, extra special, is its location on the edge of the Camargue region, that wide open space. The pink hues of the salt marshes nearby do paint an absolutely spectacular sight. And that’s very spectacular too, with flamingos often wading about in the pools there. Seriously, they look good there! Actually, if you have time, I suppose you might want to think about a trip to the nearby salt pans. Anyway, the Salin d’Aigues-Mortes? It’s one for your pictures!

2. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert: One of France’s “Most Beautiful Villages”

Alright, anyway, if you wanted something more of a relaxed pace, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, as a matter of fact, this should be right up your street, still. Typically, it’s listed as one of France’s “Most Beautiful Villages,” basically because it, by the way, it’s tucked away in the gorgeous Gellone Valley, clearly, and it shows. First off, this place has a real calm about it. For example, wandering through the medieval streets really will give you an escape from the everyday. Then you have all these old stone buildings and tiny squares, seriously it’s worth, like, taking a leisurely walk through here, for instance. Okay? For instance, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert? Basically, it’s famous for the Abbey of Gellone, or honestly, a very important spot on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

In other words, its Romanesque architecture, in that case, I should say, is seriously breathtaking, right? Like, you might easily spend an afternoon there, studying the cloisters and just kind of imagining the monks that lived there, so I’m saying. You need to take note, though, that the village, as I was saying, it’s also right near the Gorges de l’Hérault, alright? You might want to think about going for a hike if you want to explore the natural area. Actually, there are hiking trails of all levels and difficulties, anyway, for whatever experience you want. At the end of the day, and in short, it’s just ideal, instead, for someone, say, who loves combining cultural visits with outdoor activities, likewise, no?

3. Nîmes: Roman History at Its Best

Nevertheless, next we come to Nîmes, you know, which now, if you like Roman history, now, then of course you, like, definitely can’t miss this one, right? Right, so, like, that’s where you’ll discover some really really amazing well-preserved Roman stuff. Like, probably the star attraction, if I can call it that, and definitely, literally the best preserved, it’s the Arènes de Nîmes, okay, a really spectacular Roman amphitheater! We all know it once held gladiator combats and public events, seriously, that stuff will give you the feels. And seriously, it’s kind of there still, kind of.

Honest, Nîmes does give you so much more to enjoy than just that, you know, Roman stuff! By the way, for instance, the Maison Carrée is another thing that’s worth talking about. Okay? As a matter of fact, the stunning Roman temple, and honestly, a total must-see really, you know. Oh, and there’s the Jardin de la Fontaine too. Definitely seriously pretty gardens if, like, that’s more your thing and seriously one, you know, to explore. Like, maybe there will be Roman ruins and fountains if you, kind of, go about. In a way, this makes Nîmes a very unique place to visit, if I do say so myself.

4. Sète: The “Little Venice” of Languedoc

Anyway, now what we can talk about now, alright? In fact, we have Sète. Seriously, you may, as a matter of fact, like hear it being called the “Little Venice” of Languedoc, okay? As a matter of fact, I guess it’s kind of obvious that Sète, I suppose, is where canals play a large part really, definitely. Okay? It might be what Sète gives, to be honest. What makes it distinct. Like, it seriously just has a super, very pretty port setting, too! Okay?

Okay? See? To be honest, with the canals there’s also seriously quaint, picturesque bridges everywhere, to be honest. Just like if it was Venice really, like your photos! Now, as a matter of fact, you might just enjoy exploring it if you feel like taking a boat trip, as far as, kind of, like, exploring goes. Pretty much, honestly, there will, in a way, kind of be places around here too, okay. To be honest, if, to be honest, seafood, yeah. Oh well, as a matter of fact, there are several places to enjoy it from that. Oh and pretty good wine! As I said, yeah.

5. Les Gorges de l’Hérault: Natural Beauty

Honestly, it really just ends there. It seriously provides a few options that can be thought of as really good! In the way, for you seriously, it’s just really special as something that can just kind of allow all types, basically and kind of actually as such, seriously a unique place, yeah? It literally and as such may or may not have given others reasons why to enjoy! Seriously, if you want some outside stuff, really if I say so myself it will seriously provide stuff as the, right. This place. Seriously.

As a matter of fact it may just let them have all sorts for there too and so on right if they see that there has already being and like some stuff yeah. Seriously Les Gorges De l’Hérault will honestly, you know, literally give people some places too, actually if as such you feel this is what you mean of course!
