2025 Ubud Surrounding Tour Review: Is It The Right Trip For You?

2025 Ubud Surrounding Tour Review: Is It The Right Trip For You?

A stunning view of Ubud rice paddies and jungle

So, you’re thinking about a trip to Ubud. That’s honestly a great choice. You know, people talk about Ubud, and it’s a bit hard to explain what it’s really like. It’s actually more than just a place on a map. I mean, it’s this feeling you get. Planning what to do, though, can be a little much, frankly. You see all these amazing pictures online, and you want to see it all. Well, that’s where something like the 2025 ‘Ubud Surrounding Tour’ comes in. We decided to check it out to see if it’s genuinely a good way to see the sights. Basically, it’s a full day that packs in some of the most famous spots around the main town. At the end of the day, having someone else handle the driving and logistics is a pretty big deal here.

A Morning with Holy Water at Tirta Empul Temple

Tirta Empul Temple purification ritual

Okay, so our day pretty much started at Tirta Empul. Honestly, arriving here in the morning is the way to go. The air is still a bit cool, and the bigger crowds haven’t shown up yet. So, this place is a Balinese Hindu water temple, and it’s famous for its holy spring water. You can actually take part in the purification ritual, you know. Our guide, who came with the tour, was really helpful here. He showed us how to get a sarong to wear, which is required, and explained what to do. Basically, you go from one fountain spout to the next, dunking your head under the cold, fresh water. Seriously, the water is shockingly cold, but in a very good way. It kind of wakes up all your senses, and for a moment, you just feel totally present with the sounds of flowing water and the smell of nearby incense in the air.

You know, just feeling that cold, holy spring water on your skin is something you don’t really forget. It’s a very personal and grounding start to the day.

What I kind of appreciated was that the guide didn’t rush us. Some people in our group wanted to do the full ritual, and others, like myself, were just content to watch and dip our hands in. So, having that flexibility was pretty nice. It’s almost like you’re getting a gentle introduction to Balinese culture instead of just looking at old stones, you know. Frankly, starting the day this way sets a really calm and thoughtful mood for everything else that comes next, which is sort of perfect.

Finding a Moment of Zen in the Tegallalang Rice Terraces

So, after the temple, we made our way to the Tegallalang Rice Terraces. You have absolutely seen pictures of this place; I mean, it’s everywhere. But actually, seeing it in person is something else entirely. The layers of green are just so incredibly deep. So, our tour got us there at a pretty good time. It was starting to get busier, but it wasn’t completely packed, you know. We had enough space to just wander around. Honestly, the guide just pointed us in the right direction and let us explore on our own for a while, which was a good call. You kind of want to just walk along the skinny paths that curve along the hillsides by yourself.

Now, here’s a little thing I learned. So, walking through the terraces involves some uneven steps and a little bit of up-and-down hiking. It’s not a serious workout or anything, but you should probably wear some comfortable shoes. Some parts can be a little slick with mud, especially if it rained recently. By the way, there are all these little spots where you can take pictures, like those famous Bali swings or nests. The tour doesn’t include the fees for those, so just have a little cash on you if you want that perfect Instagram shot. To be honest, I was happier just finding a quiet spot, sitting down, and looking at the view. It’s pretty much a living piece of art made by farmers over hundreds of years.

Lunch with a View and a Surprise Coffee Stop

Alright, so after all that walking, lunch was definitely needed. The tour took us to a restaurant that had a pretty spectacular setting. It was basically an open-air spot looking out over a green valley. At the end of the day, food is a big part of travel for me, and this part did not disappoint. We got to try some real Balinese dishes, like Nasi Campur, which is a little bit of everything, you know, rice with small portions of different meats and vegetables. It was actually delicious and tasted so fresh. Eating a good meal while looking at a beautiful scene is kind of the perfect midday break, isn’t it?

Then came a little surprise. The tour included a stop at a local coffee plantation. I was sort of expecting a quick tourist trap, but it was actually really interesting. So, they walk you through this garden and show you all the different things they grow, like cocoa, vanilla, and all sorts of spices. Then you get to the tasting part. They bring you this whole tray with small cups of different coffees and teas to try for free. Like, there was ginger tea, ginseng coffee, coconut coffee, and more. Of course, this is where they talk about the famous Kopi Luwak, or civet coffee. Trying it costs extra, and I’ll be honest, it’s a unique experience. So, it’s just a really relaxed way to try local products without any pressure to buy, which I kind of liked.

Getting Artsy in Ubud’s Traditional Villages

The afternoon was all about seeing the local arts and crafts. So, this is another cool part of the tour. Instead of just going to a shop in downtown Ubud, you go to the villages where the art is actually made. We stopped in a place known for its woodcarving. You know, you literally walk into a workshop, and you see people sitting on the floor, surrounded by wood chips, carefully carving these incredibly detailed statues and masks. It’s almost hypnotic to watch. You can see the skill and patience that goes into every single piece. It’s a very different experience than just seeing the finished product in a gallery, right?

Next, we visited a village that is all about silversmithing. I mean, it was fascinating to see the whole process. They showed us how they take these small bits of silver and heat them and shape them into these beautiful, delicate pieces of jewelry. The people working there are really proud of what they do, and they’re happy to show you their techniques. So, you can watch them twist fine silver threads or place tiny little silver balls into a design. Of course, there’s an opportunity to buy things, and honestly, the prices seemed pretty fair, especially knowing you’re buying directly from the people who made it. But anyway, there was no pressure, which is always nice.

My Honest Take: Who Is This Tour Really For?

A happy group of tourists on a Bali tour

So, at the end of the day, what’s the final word on the ‘Ubud Surrounding Tour’? Honestly, I think it really depends on what kind of traveler you are. For instance, if this is your first time in Bali, or you’re a little nervous about getting around on your own, then this tour is pretty much perfect. It’s incredibly convenient. You get picked up, driven around in an air-conditioned car, and you see so many key sights in a single day without having to think about a thing. You just get to enjoy it. It’s also great if you are on a tight schedule. You know, you can see in one day what might take you two or three days to organize on your own.

On the other hand, if you’re someone who has been to Bali a bunch of times or you just really hate having a fixed schedule, this might not be your thing. So, you don’t get to spend three hours just chilling at the rice terraces if you feel like it. You’re on the tour’s timetable, more or less. You also go to the most popular spots, so you will be sharing the experience with other travelers. So, basically, it’s about trading some freedom for a lot of convenience. For us, as a way to get a solid overview of the area and understand the layout for future exploring, it was absolutely worth it. It’s kind of a brilliant introduction to the magic that surrounds Ubud.
