The day starts pretty much with a pickup from one of several designated spots in town. Frankly, our meeting point was just a short walk from our hotel, which was super convenient. The van begins its climb into the Sierra Madre Occidental, and obviously, the air changes. The guide gives you a few last-minute instructions, basically to keep a steady speed and not to stop. You are very tempted to look down, and when you do, the view of the Cuale River so far below is just dizzying and absolutely stunning. After the RZR ride, you more or less trade your driving helmet for a ziplining one. The circuit here has something like 11 lines, and they are all a little different. They check your gear multiple times and make the whole experience feel really secure. The first zipline is often a bit shorter, just to get you used to the feeling. But then, of course, they get longer, faster, and higher. You are just zipping from one side of the canyon to the other, high above the trees and the river. On some of the longer lines, you really pick up some serious speed. The feeling of the wind rushing past you and the panoramic view unfolding below is just pure joy. It’s an entirely different way to see the same beautiful landscape you just drove through.

Winding Down with a Refreshing Dip

Frankly, after all that adrenaline and dust, the final stop is perfect. You are led down a stone path to a gorgeous hidden waterfall that flows into a natural, clear pool. It is probably one of the most refreshing swims you will ever have. The water is cool and so clean, and just floating there, looking up at the waterfall and the green jungle around you, is a really peaceful way to end the high-energy part of the day. A lot of people in our group just jumped right in. Anyway, it’s a great chance to wash off some of the trail dust and just relax your muscles a bit. It is almost a reset button before you head back to civilization.

Once you’ve had your swim, you head back up to the main restaurant. They have a really big menu with lots of options, like delicious tacos, fresh guacamole, and ice-cold beers or cocktails. Okay, so the food and drinks are an extra cost, but they are pretty reasonably priced for such a remote spot. Sitting there with your group, eating good food, and talking about the crazy things you just did is a really great capstone to the whole tour. The atmosphere is very laid-back and happy. You just sort of soak it all in before the van ride back to town.

You know, the guides can really make or break a tour like this, and ours were just fantastic. They were clearly having a good time themselves, which made everything more fun. They were cracking jokes and teasing each other, but the moment anyone had a question or needed help, they were right there and completely focused on safety. You could tell they really loved the mountains and were proud to show them to visitors. Our group was a real mix of people—couples, some families with older teens, and a few solo travelers.
