Dolphin tours are often one of the main things that draws people to Kizimkazi, and rightly so, that’s true. Getting to see these amazing creatures is actually an experience that’s tough to match. The tours usually begin early in the morning to get on top of the dolphin activity, alright, so plan to wake up maybe earlier than you normally would. After a quick briefing, you’ll go by boat to where the dolphins tend to hang out. Spotting them in their natural habitat is very exciting. When you find them, there is a chance you may get to jump into the water and swim along these super smart and playful animals. Do remember to listen to your guides, too, so everyone has a super fun and safe time, yeah?
One sunny morning, a friend and I joined a dolphin tour, and, honestly, I wasn’t ready for the level of emotion I felt when I saw my first dolphin. Getting so close to such graceful animals was powerful, in a way. These moments can definitely make any trip super memorable.

2. Snorkeling Adventures: Discovering the Underwater Beauty
Kizimkazi it’s almost an awesome place to explore underwater with snorkeling, arguably because the coral reefs around here just buzz with life and are surprisingly colorful, in that case. Even if you haven’t snorkeled before, don’t sweat it. There are many tours, like your typical tourist package, that help beginners learn the basics. With some simple instruction, as a matter of fact, you could easily be out spotting all kinds of sea creatures.
The coral there can range from giant brain corals to really delicate fan corals, too, each adding its own bit of beauty to the underwater picture. Small fish of all the colors swim here, yeah, and it’s quite something to watch them in their space. I would suggest paying attention for parrotfish and clownfish, too – they like to hide, seemingly, but you will likely spot them if you just look close.
As I was saying, one time while snorkeling near Kizimkazi, this cute sea turtle appeared in front of me and swam alongside me for quite a bit. I will just say that was very cool and a good experience I will not soon forget. It also just shows how respectful sea life usually is when you enter its space gently. Anyway, if you have the opportunity, give it a go, is that right? It’s very worth it!

3. Jozani Forest Tour: Encountering the Red Colobus Monkeys
Close to Kizimkazi is the Jozani Forest, it might be one of the last places on Earth where you could very see the red colobus monkeys, yeah? It’s super easy to arrange a day trip. Local guides take you through the forest, that’s right, teaching you all about the monkeys and also about the plants and wildlife there. That adds more to the outing in some respects. The monkeys are used to people and often get pretty close, naturally making for some great photos, okay?
The forest has different environments from mangrove swamps to thick woodlands. If you pay attention to it, it’s very easy to see how nature has managed to create some really neat systems of plants and animals that only live in these forests.
During one of my visits, as a matter of fact, I remember how funny it was to watch the monkeys. Their lively behavior just made us all laugh. Jozani is very just the sort of side trip that brings you closer to nature and lets you appreciate what’s still wild, right?

In a way, I can just picture sitting around with locals while they actually teach you about Zanzibari cooking. And, you just watch someone weave mats or make crafts right there while learning the stories of the place straight from the people who live there, basically making a place become alive.
As I was saying, the time I spent chatting with a local fisherman, you know, he showed me just how he mended his nets, well, very it turned out to be super eye-opening to better comprehend how life operated there. No trip would really be total without spending time chilling on the beach, alright? Kizimkazi has, very uniquely, peaceful beaches, you realize. These are very different from some of the crazy ones up north. What they offer are, it seems, quiet spots where you could totally unwind with the sound of soft waves close by.
Imagine yourself laying down a towel on the pure white sand with a cold drink as your nearby friend and as you just watch the light-blue sea that looks so attractive and quiet. Read that sort of book or listen to soft music. Honestly, maybe a day relaxing on one of Kizimkazi’s beaches is truly therapy, and you get to relax in a wonderful atmosphere, right?
While there, I met an old man who said he had spent pretty much all his life by the sea there, as a matter of fact. His laid-back approach really influenced me. With some words, he just showed me how just slowing down can let you fully get a grasp of your environment. In the end, beaches often leave you with more insights than sunburns, usually. Okay?
