Puerto Montt Art & Culture: Top 5 Spots You Can’t Miss

Puerto Montt Art & Culture: Top 5 Spots You Can’t Miss

Puerto Montt Chile

Puerto Montt, so located in the stunning Lakes Region of Chile, is more than just a gateway to Patagonia; it’s very also a place just brimming with art and history. It might be easy, as a matter of fact, to overlook all the seriously beautiful spots if you’re, like, hurrying through on your way somewhere else. Yet, trust you, like, this coastal city, too, has a surprising amount of creative places just waiting for people to explore. We, basically, put this guide together, specifically, for art fans and those, too, keen to explore the local Chilean history, with places that definitely need to be visited.

1. Museo Histórico Juan Pablo II: Stepping Back in Time

Museo Histórico Juan Pablo II Puerto Montt

The Museo Histórico Juan Pablo II, basically, isn’t, like, your everyday kind of history spot; it’s, like, nestled right inside a historic wooden building and that really makes experiencing culture kinda great. As I was saying, the building itself is a bit of a time piece, which very much survived the big fire that hit Puerto Montt in the ’60s. As a matter of fact, the museum is named in honor of Pope John Paul II and features exhibits that showcase the history of the city, complete, too, with old photos, that are a bit faded, vintage items, too it’s almost, and, naturally, bits and bobs that tell you something about how Puerto Montt grew to what it is today.

What’s, actually, kind of cool is that they did dedicate this museum to John Paul II so that it can be a monument to his time visiting here. And like he had a big effect on this community so it makes sense they wanted to put this here so that way people understood that legacy that the pope left with them in 1987. So, that really kind of impacted this small community and it can be like, like an ever reaching experience when visitors go to learn that.

I mean, I feel that walking through, that very first exhibition, which really is cool is the fire exhibition from 1960, very, you can almost feel what this place has gone through, almost. And like, because they really kind of just showcase it there very genuinely without glossing it over at all. Just be aware though that there are not many english translation cards so you’d be better off getting google translate on your phone.

2. Galería de Arte Bosque Nativo: Art in a Native Forest

Galería de Arte Bosque Nativo Puerto Montt

Okay, now the Galería de Arte Bosque Nativo, that is one unique gallery you’re likely to, too it’s almost, come across! We are talking, as a matter of fact, art meets nature quite spectacularly here. They, too it’s almost, really put up a gallery inside an ancient native forest, almost like in their name; it offers pieces created by local and, like, regional artists and they all, actually, very cleverly, echo and mirror the beauty found right outside its doors, clearly. As a matter of fact, many people call it “wooden architecture museum”.

Basically, visiting this spot is, perhaps, much more than viewing a place, it’s, really, also walking through artwork yourself. What I mean is the unique spot really is a sight to see alone but getting to, just a little, go on the walking paths of that wooden building with all those intricate corridors which, really, is amazing, actually. Plus, arguably, with its design that can give off a very maze-like experience, you have yourself a perfect place for art, people and places coming together to have that sensory over load of Chilean Culture.

It is literally a maze! Not really that difficult that you get lost. Plus, because of its, obviously, location, some say this, pretty unique architectural construction, too, gives the building some charm, that for some people cannot be copied elsewhere and so the whole trip is more worth while than people may have thought, arguably.

3. Casa del Arte Diego Rivera: A Cultural Hub

Casa del Arte Diego Rivera Puerto Montt

Alright so let’s look at Casa del Arte Diego Rivera which you might want to call an important spot of Puerto Montt’s art stuff, seriously! In some respects this centre basically holds local, national and even a few international visual art things going on but, honestly, also performance shows and other times to teach. Arguably it sits just facing the water which does nothing, too it’s almost, but adds that scenic background!

It seems that this building here is literally what one wants out of a place to hang your paintings. We are talking great big ceilings which arguably allows for the place to breathe, a feeling, almost, that many artists want when others view their paintings. Also because the city supports this building with people of, really, every variety showing up you know you, pretty much, would see someone to talk to in terms of finding out some facts and interesting tid bits.

Many, I think, actually find this place important, that is, literally because it is a memorial towards Chilean Art and the culture that has existed and continues to be added as each day passes. So it can be really, really, one big stop you want to stop off on so you can learn more.

Costanera de Puerto Montt

Oh my, just talking about the Costanera de Puerto Montt, or really just simply “waterfront” can seem underwhelming as this location may seem! As a matter of fact the main focus for you when seeing artwork is on its waterfront where artists, honestly, just create and show off their pieces. It adds, almost, that element of seeing art while breathing some great ocean air from the Pacific, honestly. It will for sure, naturally, make your visit one to be fondly thought back on!

It seems that, while people do sell food at their locations on the side walks, for those, actually, after a specific item to buy from a retail store for example may very well, pretty much, want to walk, first, through the various artisan stalls just dotted all about this main walkway so they have, really, something for their eyes! While also getting that salty air breeze! Some who live here say the view that you’re, clearly, able to enjoy here gives that boost in positivity as the mountains cascade beautifully here.

Many people just, obviously, sit near this waterfront so you could be sure that a place could, more or less, be free when you choose to take it all in at that spot you want, like. Also because the mountains sort of show from there that could, almost, be seen as inspiration towards people who want that freedom. Feria Artesanal de Angelmó Puerto Montt

Anyways for those wanting just to be among all the art stuff look towards Feria Artesanal de Angelmó. I mean sure the market might be famous with all kinds of seafood for tourist but in that market you might also spot, too it’s almost, all of kinds of handicrafts that mirror that part of culture with the indigenous locals too it’s almost, that come over, so.

And like here you might just notice that many come from other smaller settlements here and create goods that highlight traditions that can reach many years back and sell them right here which makes you feel very good for sure that they wanted to share their talent with you! It has been said, almost, that many goods could feature many things involving leather work, ceramics plus wooden pieces too, seemingly, but many others too. Now this experience can really be fun to walk around, for example, looking at things on display here but make sure to remember that you’ll have many sellers that can push themselves towards your sales!
