Indeed, it’s a haven for anyone looking to unwind with amazing food and some pretty interesting drinks, too it’s almost like every corner you turn reveals a new spot promising a tasty adventure.
The culinary scene? Oh, it really showcases the local flavors while bringing together influences from across Peru. Basically, it’s the variety that makes dining in Matarani pretty special, from seafood that comes straight from the ocean to dishes made with time-honored family recipes. That said, picking out the absolute top places? It is that a tough, but pretty exciting, task. But anyway, I’ve kinda done the legwork, tasting my way around, and come up with, I feel, a list of spots you just gotta check out.

1. Restaurante Marisko: A Seafood Lover’s Dream
If there’s one place that nearly always gets brought up in Matarani when you mention “seafood,” Restaurante Marisko would usually come to mind. This place? It’s more or less a hit with both tourists and folks from around here. As a matter of fact, everyone seems to rave, not only about how unbelievably tasty the food is, but also the great location looking right out over the ocean.
They are almost known for their ceviche. You know, the type that’s made fresh to order, with a super tangy punch of lime that just wakes up your taste buds. But, anyway, don’t just stop there. Actually, try their Parihuela. Usually, it is a hearty seafood stew, loaded with all sorts of sea treasures that have been simmered to draw out those deep flavors. In fact, I tried their Arroz con Mariscos once and the memories alone make me want to hop on the next flight there.
Basically, the reason folks kinda love Marisko so much? I mean, I believe, is that you’re not only chowing down on top-notch food. Anyway, the atmosphere itself is part of the experience. Could be that you are watching the waves roll in as you eat. Or perhaps, it could be the sea breeze playing. That said, every visit is a total treat for your senses.

2. El Rinconcito: Authentic Peruvian Flavors
If there is a place to experience Peruvian cuisine done pretty authentically and with heart? Then, arguably, El Rinconcito would be the spot. This unassuming little restaurant, kind of set back from the main drag, seems to have become quite the hit with those truly in search of genuine local fare. It’s kinda where you’d probably find families sharing plates. And it also tends to be where you hear a real buzz of conversation.
Their menu? In a way, it is a tribute to the country’s cooking legacy. That said, each dish has its own kinda story to tell. As a matter of fact, their Aji de Gallina might be amazing. And so is their Seco de Cordero – tender lamb that’s been simmered in cilantro sauce until it just melts in your mouth. This location offers so much more. Like how you’re experiencing recipes that are almost passed down through generations, with flavors that really bring you closer to Peruvian culture.
Actually, El Rinconcito feels a world apart from places aimed very much at tourists because it gives one the authentic experience of the country.

3. Puerto Viejo Bar: Drinks with a View
Alright, for anyone keen to sip on something good while drinking in views? Well, Puerto Viejo Bar could be your go-to. Sitting pretty close to the old harbor. Arguably, it’s become more of a favorite for capturing that easy-going vibe that Matarani’s actually known for. Anyway, here’s where you’re likely to find yourself winding down after a day of sightseeing.
Their Pisco Sours tend to be very well-regarded. As are their local beer collection. Not to mention, their bartenders also really appear to know their stuff, too it’s almost they can whip you up something great based on what you like. Plus, now and then, they will do have live music going on, particularly in the evenings, adding a soundtrack to those fantastic sunset views. It just makes the vibe extra awesome. Anyway, that blend of great drinks, great views, and great company? Anyway, that is what has folks coming back here time and time again.

4. Pizzeria Bella Italia: A Taste of Italy in Peru
Now, for those days when you kinda crave something other than Peruvian? In a way, Pizzeria Bella Italia does offer a welcome break with pretty reliable, simple Italian dishes. As a matter of fact, this pizza place seems to have carved out quite the niche. What I think helps to provide relief when someone wants pizza?
The pizzas are just very dependable, and, clearly, made with pretty fresh ingredients. They also have great pasta too. So, arguably, whether you stick to old favorites like a Margherita or start experimenting with the toppings on offer, what they serve can really be satisfying. But, still, it’s a comforting space, more or less providing a good alternative if your family are in need of something that everyone will like and love.

5. Jugueria Oasis: Fresh Juices and Smoothies
For a kinda healthy stop, that is also darn yummy? Arguably, Jugueria Oasis really brightens one’s day with their incredible selection of juices and smoothies. Clearly, this spot is all about, more or less, taking advantage of Peru’s awesome range of fruits to provide, what I think is, a totally revitalizing treat. But really, what is a smoothie? Argh! Another rabbit hole.
Whether it is something tropical you wish for. And really? All they can give will deliver the goodness of local ingredients. Or whether, as a matter of fact, it’s a custom mix? Either will, with no exception, come overflowing with all the nutrients you require. Now, what that shop really gives? It may actually fill the gaps no matter if that shop just sets you up in the morning. Yet this juice bar kinda also provides a really, really super choice. In particular if someone wants just one boost filled with tasty vitamins. Clearly it just gives an experience for refreshing drinks!
