For us, heading into the State Apartments was kind of breathtaking. We were told to look for the Garter Knights’ banners, and they are quite a sight, each one totally unique. It’s these kinds of personal tips that really make the visit better.
Exploring Beyond the Castle Walls: Great Park and the Long Walk

And then there’s the Long Walk. I mean, you can see it from the castle, stretching out perfectly straight for nearly three miles. It’s honestly an impressive piece of landscape design. Getting to actually walk a part of it, or even just be driven along its length, is very special. Apparently, the Queen used to ride her horses here. Looking up that long avenue of trees towards the Copper Horse statue at one end and Windsor Castle at the other is just one of those “wow” moments. You get a sense of the scale and grandeur of the whole Windsor estate. It’s pretty much impossible to do this part of the trip justice if you are on a tight schedule or rely on public transport, so in some respects, this is where the private tour really shines.
A Jaunt Over to Eton College
Just a little hop over the River Thames from Windsor is Eton, and it feels like stepping into a different world.
