Very tasty food is something Martina Franca does quite well, by the way. So, it’s almost a must to try some of the neighborhood stuff while you’re there. Capocollo, this kinda cured meat, is something local folks love, and you’ll want to check out some authentic Apulian dishes in the town’s inviting restaurants, like some yummy orecchiette pasta. 2. Ostuni: The White City

Want some pretty striking views? Just take a short trip down to Ostuni, very. Known, oddly enough, as “the White City” for its whitewashed walls, this place kinda piles up the side of a hill and really sparkles. Get happily lost as you’re walking around Ostuni’s twisty streets and come across tiny shops, and then enjoy that view, like, over the olive groves all around that rolls on down to the water, for instance.

Besides that super amazing look, Ostuni’s got a cathedral to see and, in some respects, even an Archaeological Museum where you can, maybe, learn tons about the area’s background. Grab some tasty olive oil (Puglia’s liquid gold, is that right?) or enjoy lunch somewhere while watching what’s what. Very cool to do, anyway. Ostuni blends picturesque beauty with Apulian customs that will almost surely grab you.

3. Polignano a Mare: Cliffside Charm

For your little coastal stopover, Polignano a Mare sits real pretty above the Adriatic Sea with these really spectacular cliffs, too. It’s almost one of those must-sees when you are very close by in Puglia. The views you’ll see from this town are, like, truly beyond words. You might know it best as Domenico Modugno’s very home, the guy who made “Volare” super famous, too.

Take a gander through the Old Town, with streets heading towards, like, these decks that face out onto the sparkling sea, is that right? Oh, and go to Lama Monachile, a well-known little pebbly beach pressed tight by very high cliffs that give it that real wow look, kinda. Enjoy some very nice seafood in town, just soaking up every bit of seaside happiness around, right? That’s the plan, anyway. Visiting Polignano a Mare makes for a genuinely great experience that you don’t just up and forget.

4. Matera: The Sassi District

Hop over into the region next door, Basilicata, and you could go to Matera, famous, basically, for its historic Sassi districts (ancient cave dwellings), almost. It earned a name for folks as one of the oldest continuously lived-in places in Italy, also. A UNESCO World Heritage site to see? Yup, Matera should absolutely be a highlight to any day-tripping from Alberobello and Locorotondo, kinda.

You may want to take tours through these cave houses and rock-hewn churches and then hear of Matera’s transformation from poor cave settlement to cool cultural beacon, you might. Is it amazing? Could be. Also, don’t just forget to visit the Cathedral of Matera, too it’s almost the spot to get a bird’s-eye view from high above the city. That Sassi are unique makes a great sight that is, very really, unforgettable.

5. Cisternino: A Taste of Authentic Puglia

Looking to, like, step away from all those well-beaten tourist routes? So, then Cisternino should suit your fancy. Tucked deep within Valle d’Itria (that is quite lovely!), you may find Cisternino super authentic. Here, the feel is very real Puglia, actually. Is it very pretty? Maybe.

Here, try meandering down those little maze streets where every turn looks almost like another postcard, or try grabbing yourself one of those local bombette grills found straight in the street for grub on the fly, for instance. Don’t forget very lovely countryside either: those panoramas out into green hills can actually offer tranquil contrast from busier hotspots around in Puglia. It adds one sweet, sweet memory of Italy for years.
