Bled Day Trips: 5 Top Adventures You Won’t Forget

Lake Bled, it’s a seriously stunning spot, that’s for certain! We all know it – the fairytale-like island with its little church, the imposing castle perched high on a cliff, and the glassy, blue-green lake reflecting all that beauty. But you know, if you are hanging around for more than a couple of days, or even just feeling a bit like being outdoors, exploring the areas right around Bled, well that’s certainly something to consider! There’s some seriously beautiful stuff that is nearby. What I am getting at, five top-notch possibilities for day trips starting right there.

1. Vintgar Gorge: A Walk Through Nature’s Masterpiece

So, just a hop, skip, and a jump from Bled, you’ve got Vintgar Gorge, alright? Seriously, this place is just amazing! Imagine, if you will, crystal clear water gushing through a narrow canyon, with wooden walkways clinging to the cliff faces. That’s it, alright? The Radovna River has kind of carved this dramatic path right through the rocks. It’s almost a mile long, and the whole thing is just unbelievably beautiful.

As I was saying, you stroll along these walkways, which are rather something, with the sunlight dappling through the trees overhead. The water is incredibly clear, too it’s almost turquoise in some places. The whole walk is relatively easy, so too it’s okay for most fitness levels. It’s especially cool if you are checking it with kids.

As a matter of fact, at the end of the gorge, there is a pretty impressive waterfall – the Šum Waterfall. Be certain to snap a bunch of photos! The way back it’s just along the same path, yet you tend to see different perspectives, or there is a trail through the woods and across meadows for a little extra variety.

Vintgar Gorge is usually pretty busy, specifically during peak season. The way things look, get there early if you would prefer avoiding the biggest crowds, very. It’s worth it to have more personal space to just take it all in.

2. Lake Bohinj: Bled’s Serene Sister Lake

Okay, so picture this: Lake Bohinj. Now, while Bled often grabs the spotlight, its sister lake Bohinj, it’s seriously like this peaceful, almost untouched escape that seems like something out of a postcard, right? It’s like Bled, but really turned down a bunch of notches. It sits in the Triglav National Park and is completely surrounded by the Julian Alps, as I was saying.

As a matter of fact, what to do there? You can swim, go kayaking, you can hike. In fact, there is even some really great climbing opportunities too. Maybe just lounge by the lake, right? So there are walking trails that go all the way around the lake.

The hike to the Savica Waterfall is totally worth your time, as well! Anyway, a bus does run regularly from Bled to Bohinj, but anyway, I recommend driving there, just so you will have all of the time you will want to see what you want.

Arguably, for an awesome view of the lake and mountains, there is a cable car that will carry you right up to Vogel Mountain. Arguably, in the winter, Vogel turns into a ski resort, by the way!

3. Radovljica: Honeybees and Gingerbread Houses

So, I will change gears just a bit here. If you happen to be craving something other than a hike, anyway, consider popping over to Radovljica, okay? It is just a really, very lovely medieval town about 10 mins from Bled. In short, its main square, Linhart Square, anyway, is circled by immaculately retained townhouses. These are really very wonderful and pretty for pictures, anyway.

Radovljica it’s a little famous for its gingerbread-making tradition, arguably! Just pop into one of the small shops in town and watch the bakers creating art from gingerbread! Get something! You need a little present to bring to a friend?

This spot it’s pretty tied up in beekeeping tradition in Slovenia, I think. You can explore the Museum of Apiculture, there, as I was saying, to find out very, very much about the history and that of beekeeping. Which might seem kinda dull. Believe me, there are some cool facts. You are gonna wow some friends, very!

Now, I have to say it. The views of the Julian Alps from Radovljica, they are really actually fabulous. So too, wander the town’s edges for a picture, maybe? Very likely, it’s gonna be very cool for your social media.

4. The Mighty Mostnica Gorge

Let me let you know: so if you really do find Vintgar Gorge kind of a little crowded, you might really check out Mostnica Gorge instead. Honestly, so close to Lake Bohinj, alright? You get very dramatically carved gorges, that, I mean it. Like the work of Michelangelo, okay? These rock formations have been carved from Mother Earth over thousands of years!

The walkways are really like small trails and it’s so quiet and a lot of what you’ll find. I have been hiking this spot at various points and there have been days when I only ran into just a small amount of others checking the gorge out.

Honestly, from that end you actually are able to loop back all of the way to Lake Bohinj and stop in at a seriously delicious cafe that’s been there for decades, really. Have a bite to eat and walk back around that stunning Bohinj, alright?

Oh by the way, near the trailhead, anyway, make sure you check out what is widely viewed to be what is called, the Devil’s Bridge. Great for pictures. Terrifying for many.

5. The Incredible Peričnik Waterfall

Anyway, about 40 minutes away from Bled happens to be a beautiful waterfall by that of Peričnik. I am not making that up. It’s a very unique experience too, because well you will very likely walk under it. The trail actually goes right behind it, and arguably with the wind, you’ll get really sprayed in the process. Yet what fun!

I would almost say to check that during warmer days simply to prevent potentially freezing a bit, yet what are you gonna do? It might seriously be cool.

I might mention too, the road to Peričnik actually can get somewhat narrow and what’s viewed to be busy in peak season, and you could seriously end up having to park what’s called, well away from the waterfall if there are crowds, just saying! In short, make sure you get that footwear thing that I just got done saying right?

You might seriously enjoy this unique day excursion where arguably you will literally find yourself walking right behind some rapidly crashing water. Like maybe some big water is just going to drop directly over top of your skull in fact, actually!

The thrill thing: As I was saying, you will seriously and really without a doubt love finding a path that takes anyone precisely right behind such a pretty huge waterfall like that.
