You see, Australia’s capital kind of has a thriving scene just waiting to be explored. That, from seriously world-class galleries to cool, kinda quirky local spots, so there’s heaps for everyone. 1. National Gallery of Australia

For one thing, this gallery just feels huge. I mean, in some respects, it’s really, really vast! That said, it’s where you’ll find an incredibly big collection of art from all over Australia and heaps of places across the globe, as I was saying. The big draw card, too it’s almost got to be the collection of Australian Indigenous art. Basically, it spans, very, well back tens of thousands of years, alright? They’ve got stuff like Sidney Nolan’s seriously iconic Ned Kelly series, which you’ve probably seen prints of somewhere, and heaps of works from international stars, as a matter of fact. 2. National Museum of Australia

Unlike your average museum, the National Museum of Australia seemingly tries to tell the story of, well, Australia! Everything, almost, right from the seriously ancient history right through to how things are today. You’ll kind of see exhibits on everything from the First Australians to, well, the trials and tribulations of bushrangers, alright, as I was saying. One highlight is, pretty much, the Garden of Australian Dreams, I guess. It’s a very interesting landscape showcasing the different ways Australians connect to the land, apparently. You’ll be able to touch stuff too, because the experience kind of pulls you in so you’re more than just looking at bits and bobs in glass cases, right? 3. Australian War Memorial

Alright, the Australian War Memorial might be a bit heavy for some, but, in a way, it is a must-see in Canberra. Basically, this is because it’s not, actually, only a museum; in fact it is also a shrine and an archive. Now, this Memorial almost celebrates the Australians who served their country in conflict, almost. As I was saying, you will see everything, from planes and tanks to photos and personal letters. Moreover, one of the very striking things here is the Pool of Reflection, where people, I mean your friends, family, and relatives, pay respects to the fallen, you know? You will also, basically, see the Last Post Ceremony, a kinda moving service that happens every day. All of that almost feels like something you should definitely see when you’re in Canberra. 4. Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG)

Anyway, if you’re after something that zooms in on Canberra and the region itself, it’s almost CMAG is just it. This is like your friend or your mom and dad will tell you, it’s a cool spot. You get to, maybe, see the art and social history together, pretty much, so that gives you a seriously good feel for the story of Canberra, actually. What’s really great, apparently, is the way they kinda mix historical stuff with the sort of, kinda modern art. It’s often surprising. All this happens in a fun and engaging way for most folks. 5. National Portrait Gallery

So, you wanna put some faces to some names, basically, this gallery does that. This gallery’s kind of dedicated to showing portraits of well, people who’ve really shaped Australia. From really famed politicians and sporting stars to very significant artists and thinkers, usually. The, maybe, unique bit about this spot is just that it shows you people through art, you will find things created in paint, very amazing sculptures and sometimes through a really compelling photograph. You might wanna learn some kinda stories behind, maybe, the faces you recognise from the history books, but basically told in a very visually striking way.
