1. Ferries and Hydrofoils: Your Gateway to Capri
Okay, so first things first, just how are you even going to get to Capri in the first place? More than likely, it’ll be by sea. You’ve got a couple of options, see? Ferries are, well, they’re kinda like the buses of the sea: spacious, typically offering both indoor and outdoor seating, and very often, much easier on the wallet. They’re also the way to go if you are thinking of bringing a car, although keep in mind that during peak season, there can be restrictions on bringing vehicles onto the island. Hydrofoils, on the other hand, are more like those speed demons! They’re faster, smoother, and, I guess, often pricier. Consider it, just like, the express train to paradise. Very worth noting: both leave from places such as Naples and Sorrento rather regularly.
What should you kinda expect? Okay, that depends on the origin, and I do think that is something that matters. The journey from Naples can be around 50–80 minutes via ferry or, it’s almost, 40–50 minutes by hydrofoil. From Sorrento, it’s even briefer! Somewhere near, as a matter of fact, 30–40 minutes by ferry or roughly 20 minutes by hydrofoil. Pro tip? If you are somewhat susceptible to seasickness, those hydrofoils *can* feel a bit bumpier than a regular ferry. Then again, I find they’re just usually faster, and time is of the essence, obviously. 2. Funicular: Uphill without the Uphill Struggle
Alright, so, you have arrived at Marina Grande. Welcome! The first thing you might, in a way, notice is: Capri Town, you know, where a lot of the shops, restaurants, and those dreamy views are? It’s actually *up there*. Up a rather steep hill. You *could* walk, I do think that is the option many would take, but very many others prefer to just get the funicular. It’s essentially a cable car that scoots you up the hillside in just a few minutes. That part is basically a non-negotiable element of the experience, too. No sweating, no struggling, just you and the fantastic view opening up as you go up, which really, in some respects, says all that needs saying.
This little railway runs very regularly, every few minutes, really, and is quite pocket-friendly. Once at the top, you are smack-dab in the middle of Capri Town, ready to roam. Tickets? Those can be easily gotten at the booth near the funicular station in Marina Grande. A little insider info for you here! It tends to get seriously crowded, that’s real! And not just at the start and end of the day, you understand. Be ready for a queue, specifically during those prime times. You have kids or a stroller? 3. Capri Bus Service: Economical and Efficient
Those buses on Capri? Small. Like, *really* small. That is partly how they can just wind their way around those oh-so-narrow roads. Do they get packed? Oh my goodness, yeah. But if you happen to be traveling on a tighter budget, or want, in a way, a more local kind of feel, they’re a superb choice for traveling, apparently, from one town to the next. There are routes that connect Capri Town, Anacapri (which is actually the island’s second main town, up even *higher*), Marina Grande, and Marina Piccola (a stunning little bay on the south side of the island).
A bus ride, if that is, and to a lesser extent, what you consider normal in this case, *can* be an adventure itself! You will be holding on tight as the driver expertly makes their way around hair-pin bends and along cliff edges. Get your tickets before you hop on! That way you will want to get to an actual ticket booth or a little shop marked with the bus symbol. Remember that during the high season, these little buses are frequently jammed. Be patient, and be prepared to perhaps stand. Knowing some Italian phrases would come in handy here, though typically not absolutely necessary, it really could, that way, add to the fun.

4. Capri Taxis: A Ride with a View
So here is a really sweet idea. These taxis are somewhat legendary. These aren’t your normal cabs! They are open-top, really pretty, and rather ideal for soaking up the views as you scoot about. They’re plusher than the bus, zippier, and clearly come with their own type of flair. Catching a cab is normally very doable at the main squares or taxi ranks. Make sure the meter is running, or, you know, pre-negotiate a price prior to getting in, that is, if there’s no meter.
They don’t come cheap, okay? Still, for a somewhat unforgettable experience, these taxis are amazing, seriously! They often feature the capability to give an amazing look at the views, since Capri’s beauty really needs to be fully absorbed. Those cabbies? Usually local characters! They are able to have many super little stories about the island’s history or point out little places you would have otherwise skipped right past. Do keep an eye, that is, on those luggage restrictions, since space really can be a little limited.

5. Scooter Rentals: For the Adventurous
Feel like living life on two wheels? Want just total freedom to go everywhere that you are able to find to visit, that is? So a scooter might really fit what you are expecting, right? Various spots on Capri actually do offer scooter rentals, particularly in Anacapri, that is, the second-largest town on the island, after Capri itself. Please, just do know: the roads can just be winding, steep, and sometimes seriously crowded, is that even really needing to be said? Be real confident in your riding skills. Never be the showman.
And a helmet? That is actually a must. It’s also typically the law. Inspect that scooter, or similar, carefully before just you sign anything. Try those brakes! Assess those tyres! Keep an eye open for scratches! I also highly suggest a somewhat valid driver’s license! And clearly, be fully updated on local traffic rules. Parking is frequently difficult, too, as is probably clear as can be, just really remember to park respectfully and avoid just you blocking traffic.
