Chur Day Trips: Top 5 Half-Day Escapes (2025)

Chur Switzerland

Chur, you see, that super charming city in Switzerland, is really quite the perfect base for taking off on some short, punchy day trips. If you only have a morning or afternoon to spare, there is still heaps you could explore. Let’s check out some half-day tour options from Chur that definitely give you a good bang for your buck.

1. Arosa’s Breathtaking Heights: Cable Car Charm

Arosa Cable Car

Fancy getting above it all? Then, well, you’ll just adore a quick trip to Arosa. And you could get there very easily by train from Chur, just about an hour. You could very easily spend a relaxed half-day there, and so Arosa is seriously famed for its outstanding cable car rides. Just think of gorgeous panoramic scenes that are literally to die for. Is that even a possibility, right?

Once up there, it’s like, wow, just enjoy the views or hit some short hiking trails. These paths offer really incredible vistas that I am pretty sure will have you snapping away on your camera. One little interesting trail leads to the Squirrel Path, you see. How fun is that? Perfect for the family or any tourist. Seriously. You too might like it.

The cable cars there link Arosa and Lenzerheide. They form an enormous ski region come winter but provide amazing vistas to anybody during summertime. I swear, even getting to Arosa is half the experience! You just twist up through mountain passes. So scenic!

2. Rhine Gorge “Grand Canyon”: River Spectacle

Rhine Gorge Switzerland

The Rhine Gorge, I think some actually call it the “Swiss Grand Canyon,” but it is super accessible from Chur and makes a cool half-day trip. So, it’s a truly spectacular natural wonder and the landscape around there feels rugged and old. You can so easily catch a train to Reichenau-Tamins from Chur. Then, change to a bus. So there, you explore different vantage points all around the gorge.

Is that a better idea than, perhaps, taking a hike? This might bring you even closer. Also, many boat tours there, and they tend to glide you down parts of the river where you could see seriously impressive rock formations. Maybe, to start your trek, zoom up to viewpoints like “Il Spir.” From way up there, that specific platform gives you what I call an amazing look out right across the canyon and valley.

It’s kind of stunning when, I think it’s after all this time, you consider just how the Rhine dug its way down over centuries. So cool! Why not go have yourself a look, anyway?

3. Brambrüesch Mountain Adventures: Hike or Bike Fun

Brambrüesch Mountain

Just a hop from Chur and seriously reachable using a cable car is Brambrüesch mountain. That’s another superb spot, alright, if you are itching for just a tiny bit of open air without a lot of travel time.

For some outdoorsy fun you’d surely want to just head to the mountain where trails wind around amazing spots and some are really geared toward different ability ranges. Is it better if I let you know, so people wanting, you know, easier strolls do not overdo things? Seriously, from up there you get really spectacular looks back over Chur and beyond.

Mountain biking there is another option if you’re up for it; so many paths mean, so that people who want to could spend lots of the day whizzing up and down the mountains. During some hotter months it is so wonderfully cooler up on Brambrüesch. Very invigorating. Just remember what I was talking about and dress properly.
