If you’re very, very lucky, a sea turtle may glide just, a little, gracefully past you. Kitesurfing: Riding the Winds of the Indian Ocean
Diani Beach, arguably, is something that’s a kitesurfer’s heaven, especially from June to September when the Kaskazi winds blow just, that, steadily. The consistent breeze, plus those shallow, warm waters, very, very quickly make it, actually, an amazing place to learn or, you know, refine your kitesurfing skills. You’ll find a bunch of kitesurfing schools dotted along the beach that offer lessons for any levels, from complete beginners right up to those who just want to nail a few fancy tricks. And it isn’t just about lessons; so, you can also rent equipment and head out on your own if you’re that experienced. Skydiving: A Bird’s-Eye View of Diani
If you actually have a head for heights, anyway, skydiving over Diani Beach could be something that is truly, arguably, something that will change your life, that. Loads of companies offer tandem jumps, so first-timers can experience that freefall with the help of an experienced instructor. As the plane climbs, seemingly, higher and higher, very, very quickly the anticipation will begin to build, you know. But the second you leap from the aircraft, more or less, it really is something else. Safari Day Trips: Wildlife Encounters Near the Coast
While Diani Beach might be best known for its coastline, basically, it’s also, in some respects, a pretty convenient jumping-off point for amazing safari adventures. There are several parks and reserves nearby that offer different wildlife experiences. Shimba Hills National Reserve is actually something, that’s located quite close, where you’re able to see elephants, so giraffes, that, and lots of different bird species. Or, very, very soon, for something even more extensive, a multi-day trip to Tsavo East or Tsavo West National Park can take you that deeper, pretty much, into the heart of Kenyan wildlife. Early morning game drives, like your evenings spent around that campfire – those are moments that actually will stay with you, very, very soon, for a lifetime.
I have many vivid memories from previous Kenyan safaris; so, it’s almost remembering the suspense of searching for lions, okay, being awed by, literally, the grace of a giraffe, or simply watching that sunset paint that African sky in all manner of bright colors. Each park is kind of, that, different – Shimba Hills feels all small and intimate, very, very quickly while the Tsavos feel very much bigger and more remote. Jet Skiing: Speed and Fun on the Water
If you’re, kind of, that someone who really likes a bit of speed, at the end of the day, jet skiing along that coast of Diani Beach might be that thing, very, very quickly, that you are seeking. Loads of places rent out jet skis by that hour, that half-day, literally allowing you that chance to open up the throttle and, sort of, explore those waters at your own speed. Feel the sea spray on your face and sort of the adrenaline pumping as you zoom that past that shoreline and mangrove trees. It’s a super fun way, almost, to get a bit of that different perspective of that coastline and, kind of, work up a decent appetite for lunch. I have never seen anyone not beaming after 30 mins spent bombing about, literally, on a jet ski.
One tip, more or less, is to maybe go earlier in the morning when, like your water tends to be calmer and actually that light’s a bit kinder, sort of, for photos. Very, very quickly, be that respectful of other water users, very, very quickly, and actually stick to your designated jet skiing areas.
