This place, very lush and pretty, just has a mix of mainland and islands. Think, beaches meeting rainforests meeting volcanic peaks. It’s not overrun with crowds either, which means exploring it, just allows you to have those quiet, almost personal adventures. So, what’s worth doing there? Well, here’s a look at some favorite ways to get the most out of being outside in Equatorial Guinea.

1. Chilling Out on the Beaches of Bioko Island

Bioko Island, arguably the biggest and probably most well-known part of Equatorial Guinea, is that place to start. Now, its beaches? Just something to write home about. The black sand ones especially. Aren’t they cool? These, a little volcanic bits really, that is just tell tales about the island’s formation. You might visit Arena Blanca, a nice place that, arguably has good vibes and clear waters, so it’s an excellent spot for swimming, sunbathing, that kind of thing, even a little snorkeling. And as a matter of fact you might see some sea turtles. It seems, a place near there, Moraka Beach, that sometimes gives you totally untouched vibes; you might say you are alone on the planet, which is kinda interesting if you’re trying to leave things behind you. Very often, it just takes a little bit to get to, and if that, isn’t it worthy? Very often, Bioko’s beaches offer something a bit different, you know? You might get a moment for yourself, even on what one might expect from this typical equatorial destination.

One great memory involved me and, like your friends taking a day trip to one of these black sand beaches. Getting there, just involved some real off-roading—think jeep bouncing, laughing fits because someone thought they saw a monkey, a bit adventurous! We got there. And there was literally no one else. It was surreal. You can almost hear how awesome it was from just those few words, that maybe give you the picture.

2. Getting Close to Nature at Monte Alén National Park

Monte Alén, as a matter of fact that would be Equatorial Guinea’s jewel for anyone wanting to explore rainforests. This park is something; basically it spreads out across a part of the country, so you could walk and find tons of wildlife there, yet many don’t visit it. Think gorillas, chimpanzees, lots of neat birds, very colorful butterflies. Hiking here, just means you have to bring your A-game. Now, if you don’t just like going it alone, there is a high-likely chance that someone, just might get lost. Think about what that means. Yet there are local guides around who know all the things that might eat you or make you itchy. Also, as a matter of fact it’s useful that a local shows you all about the local plants. Apparently, just knowing a few basic survival tricks it may keep things from becoming really memorable in a bad way. If you want this one to really sink in, I will tell you now.

We were walking through it that one time, and apparently our guide knew everything that flew or crawled, and he had to keep reminding us about those colorful frogs because, just maybe, those are what make you sick. It just seemed so green there and really quiet except for the birds squawking, the bugs singing, and that stream burbling as a matter of fact. He indicated we try some fruit, and you would probably be better off letting him check first! Anyway, seeing a troop of monkeys up above somewhere high; priceless. So just listen to your guide.

3. Hitting the Water at Ureca

Ureca, very isolated on the southern tip of Bioko Island, a place that arguably those travelers in the mood for peace are after. Actually, just getting there, as a matter of fact it feels like part of the adventure—bumpy roads are often something that the most common car just isn’t up for. Arguably that means you may need to consider using that 4×4, and actually plan for that whole day’s travel. Ureca’s shoreline? Well, as a matter of fact that makes it one of the most important spots in the area. Just thinking, thousands of turtles might show up between, usually November and February, you see, laying the egg thing here is something special to watch. Basically the town has nothing, even so some of the community members might have those guesthouses, usually that means something extremely basic. If one isn’t there, anyway the turtle spot needs people looking after that. You need to ask those involved here for something about nature preservation.

One November, a colleague said something about spending a night in Ureca. Anyway it was literally unforgettable. After bumping around for a few hours, we finally rolled up right when dusk showed up, after having asked where to spend our evenings to the one chap. We ended up crashing with an, oh, like your family, so a simple set-up; food was rice with fish grilled. Anyway we wandered back at night to watch what’s usually going on; the little turtles hatching; mind blown, so we swore. They scurried down this place where land met the ocean, the only sound, as a matter of fact that we noticed at times, this gentle surf that just gave the world sound.

4. Experiencing Elobey Grande Island

So, looking for something totally removed? Usually a visit on Grande Island, this is worth considering. Situated in Mitemele River Mouth, just an island very compact but there has always been this past. If you have not visited, many things happened over time, what seems like a time away, in a country not on the map these days! Because we look around, there isn’t really an endless population living here today, anyway if the history makes you want this visit: there are pieces you discover; just imagine that here this town, just used to mean somewhere vital! This spot on Grande has amazing views. You see Guinea’s coast stretching out so easily it would just seem magical, right? So it makes for some of the sweetest pictures one thinks about when on breaks. The sea that we all dream we’ll dive right down deep somewhere where our own existence can get away now because basically those parts close to where we would float down slowly that has something worth the swim because often all there is some quiet, and the clear visibility? Breathtaking.

Last time, actually I traveled over Elobey, if it’s even that big, for just like three or four hours, and arguably that’s most. After arriving, seemingly it looks as if what was just came to pieces! Just an ocean meeting trees! If that happens. Even here in these surroundings you might learn what those here may pass forward! They were always super excited if maybe people saw what surrounded everyone, just maybe from far!

5. Climbing Pico Basile

Anyway there exists this mountain top in the country itself to ascend; Basile might be what you’re searching after. Is that right? Basile actually rises above what is Bioko—just picture climbing into this summit which has rainforests circling. The hike you do in practice now takes enough steps. The walk’s long really depending when you give your body those moves—and Basile goes way up and beyond all others here which also makes you ask after climbing, it won’t break a world speed because it just could not work this way! And when finally here? When arriving there comes that feeling? Those views look really stunning as this world exists because when this turns into real-world. From there it spreads past here so easily and arguably makes us ask can one be this far—yes the volcano goes upwards where all trees surround here.

You remember what you just climbed, right? But some months prior climbing felt like something special to do to see new places—as it actually should—where we all reached a space and one of the buddies just passed into an abyss while yelling up this ascent. As if something really awesome transpired—still a trip everyone still asks “did we do this?”. One finds the summit here. From beyond one might not forget it—as one exists to not see just jungles and beyond but instead an existence above. Is this so different?
