1. Shubra Palace: A Trip Back to History
So, first up is the Shubra Palace, and this, by the way, is much more than simply an old building. So really, it’s a stone-and-mortar reminder of Taif’s interesting history. Once, it was home to King Abdulaziz, the founder of Saudi Arabia. Now, it’s a museum that displays that city’s story. That it showcases historical periods from the pre-Islamic era up to the present day. When you step inside, really expect to see rooms filled with period furnishings and interesting artifacts. The architecture, you see, is very telling in itself, a nice mix of Islamic and Roman influences. The palace really offers some amazing insights into royal life and Saudi heritage, too.
As I was saying, what I really enjoy about visiting Shubra Palace is that feeling you get; a sort of being transported back in time. I actually remember strolling through the different rooms, viewing exhibits that showcased vintage clothing, ancient weapons, and traditional jewelry. Yet there were so many displays that caught my attention and allowed me to glimpse the lifestyle of Saudi royalty. The manicured gardens offer a very nice and tranquil escape; they are perfect places for a leisurely stroll after really soaking in that history inside. These displays make local practices and conventional artistry come alive. I usually enjoy visiting because of the way it combines education with cultural exposure. Yet I often see families from all walks of life browsing the displays.
