Very much placed in the heart of Libreville, this spot isn’t just someplace to grab eats; this is an event! The vibe walks a pretty amazing tightrope between polished fancy and totally easygoing. It feels right at home. The eats? Mostly, French but with a Gabonese spin. They throw in stuff such as local spices and unusual stuff, giving every dish a, well, zing. Is that swordfish with a passion fruit sauce good? Wow. Plus, word of mouth says they do a bomb take on Poulet Nyembwe (chicken in palm butter sauce). Reportedly, it is a must-try. Chez Wou Libreville

Now, if what you’re after is really what folks in Libreville actually dig into every day, Chez Wou could be your jam. Often touted as a place, like your grandma’s, that keeps it all very real. It’s quite basic, yet the taste punches way, way above its weight. This is super real Gabonese eats, plain and simple, cooked up with heart, just a little. The go-to? Hands down, it has to be the Ndolé (bitter leaves with peanuts, shrimp, and spices). Yes, just what it sounds like, that thing! Anyway, this stuff is more or less Gabon in a bowl! Another favorite, Okala. It’s this delish peanut stew with either meat or fish. As a matter of fact, portions are very filling, the cost is just ok. More or less easy, and, guess what, you might find yourself chatting away with someone local! Talk about eating very culturally! Chez Wou sort of is a killer spot for, you know, digging in really deeply to the Libreville food thing without messing about.
