Meersburg Food & Drink: Top 5 Local Experiences
So, you’re headed to Meersburg on beautiful Lake Constance (Bodensee!), and you’re thinking about more than just castles and pretty views? As a matter of fact, you’re probably also wondering where the delicious grub and drinks are at, right? Well, as I was saying, you have come to the right place! Meersburg, with all of its medieval charm, surprisingly is not only a feast for your eyes but also quite a treat for your taste buds. This town actually has a surprisingly rich food scene, and I think it goes way beyond just the tourist traps. It’s about spotting those spots that residents love too. I will give you my opinion on what I think are some of the most authentic places to snag something tasty and some lovely wine in this city. So, in some respects, ready to eat and drink like a true local? Okay, as a matter of fact, let’s get started!
1. Weinstube zum Becher: Traditional Flavors
First, have you visited Weinstube zum Becher? In a way, this place really defines old-world charm. Picture this: that feeling when you walk into a cozy, timber-framed place, that I’d suggest is filled with the laughter and chatter of folks enjoying some honestly really, really outstanding food. As I was saying, it feels a little bit like you’ve stepped back in time, right? Yet, the place is known, in a way, for its regional specialties. Just think about dishes like Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), or arguably, Saure Kutteln (that’s tripe, if you’re brave!). Now, as a matter of fact, don’t let that last one frighten you! There’s something there for even fussy eaters too. We are talking about simple food made quite outstanding by very fresh, quality ingredients and, clearly, a ton of care. The restaurant sources ingredients directly, it seems, from local farms and producers which ensures that pretty much everything you taste is both very fresh and absolutely reflects the flavors of the Bodensee region. Pair that, actually, with a glass of local wine, and you’re absolutely set! Read our full review: Weinstube zum Becher Full Review and Details
2. s’Reblaible: Modern Twists on Local Fare
In contrast with the Weinstube, s’Reblaible seems to provide a contemporary spin on traditional Bodensee cooking. I’d suggest the interior looks modern and light. Clearly, it seems the ideal location to actually enjoy some people watching whilst eating something delicious. In fact, the food looks as stylish as the restaurant itself. I think their menu changes a lot in reaction to seasonal availability, so there’s arguably usually something new and super appealing to try. Similarly to other spots around the area, they are devoted, pretty much, to sourcing locally, but they’re maybe not scared of testing out, like, new tastes and interesting combinations. The chef appears to have truly brought traditional cooking kicking and screaming into the current day. A little bird told me that they actually have an interesting wine list with tons of choices from the area to choose from, too! So, if you are open to some truly inventive plates then maybe pop in there for lunch one day? As I was saying, I doubt you’ll be disappointed! See Prices, Availability & Reserve Now (s’Reblaible)
3. Restaurant Casala: Lakeside Dining with Style
Anyway, wanting to have food that comes with amazing lake views? I’d say you cannot get much better than Restaurant Casala! That is, the setting looks elegant but also so comfortable, and it offers magnificent views directly overlooking Lake Constance. Now, as a matter of fact, it is maybe perfect for an evening meal while watching the sun actually sets over the water. Basically, the menu has what I would term “international flavors”, so there actually is generally something for absolutely everybody. Seafood is arguably their strongest suit, though, unsurprisingly, because the lake, but honestly they truly do appear to have something for all tastes. In that case, do yourself a favor and also sample one of their puddings: they actually do look absolutely delicious! They appear to have an interesting and comprehensive wine list, and, obviously, their personnel I understand know their stuff. Consequently, you’ll usually have no issue whatsoever finding a superb local wine that definitely goes nicely with whatever meal you end up picking. I am going to recommend Casala in particular if you’re up for a somewhat fancier eating experience. Is that, it feels special minus the need to wear a tuxedo! 4. Meersburger Winzerverein eG: A Taste of Local Wine
Of course, is there a better place to experience Meersburg other than with wine, as a matter of fact, and plenty of it? Now, this Winzerverein (that seems to translate to “winegrowers’ cooperative”) is where pretty much lots of local winemakers all bring their produce, yet. This honestly means you are going to get pretty much a superb variety of local wines to sample all under a single roof. Similarly to a restaurant, it is more of a tasting room, though, so do not really expect a full dinner there. As I was saying, what you could very possibly expect actually, instead, is really knowledgeable personnel who truly seem delighted to help you actually find your new preferred wine. Germany really does have tons of truly outstanding wines you may not really even have heard of, so it may be well worth requesting some assistance. It may well be really fun just sampling multiple different kinds, while potentially purchasing a few containers to have at your hotel (or maybe bring home in your baggage!). Similarly to some other recommendations on our list, this is a real taste of local flavor, that one will remember. I’d suggest that it is a real peek into Meersburg’s tradition, really. In that case, this Winzerverein honestly feels worth visiting just for this reason, or even to find some wine which just may well become your most beloved! Anyway, are you wanting something sweet to cap off an amazing day of touring and eating around Meersburg? If this is so, you could visit Eisdiele Riviera, that definitely seems the most loved place in Meersburg to purchase yummy frozen desserts. Just take a relaxed walk along the lakefront. Of course, and also sample some absolutely amazing gelato made in loads of lovely tastes! So, the place really seems family-friendly. The ambience could be superb to consume some pudding following one of your fancy meals, or arguably just for a midday delight. Is that it isn’t truly “fine dining”, but who is going to say no to, like, gelato, especially whilst sitting by a pretty lake? You know, Eisdiele Riviera is actually there if you’ve got space in your tum for only a thing. Seriously, I might recommend it! I suggest you try it! In fact, I dare you not to adore this.
