Motueka Wine Tours: Top 5 Tasting Experiences Reviewed

If you find yourself planning a trip to the lovely Nelson region of New Zealand, visiting Motueka really ought to be on your to-do list. It’s just a stunning area known for its beautiful landscapes and, you guessed it, incredible wineries. Getting out and visiting some vineyards is just a lovely way to pass the time. I’m going to let you in on what I feel are five of the best tours and tastings that Motueka has available so that way you can select just what fits what you might be looking for!

1. Neudorf Vineyards: A Taste of Family History

Neudorf Vineyards absolutely has a really charming history as a family business that you actually ought to know about, and honestly, might find it very endearing. Tim and Judy Finn, they were the folks who founded it way way back in 1978, which almost seems a lifetime ago, right? They were truly pioneers in the area, just setting things up way before many other wineries hopped on the scene. I think their whole commitment is pretty remarkable, I mean the whole family’s focus on creating outstanding wines with a huge sense of place really seems important. I believe their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay might be the varieties that they’re the best known for. Tasting them, you sort of get a true sense of what Motueka can offer. Seems that way, anyway.

You might find their cellar door pretty inviting as you taste through their current releases, it is just so. In some respects they actually make you feel like you’re tasting with family. The staff appear to be knowledgeable too, so that is helpful, just pointing out the nuances of each wine, and of course answering any questions that may arise for you. If you would like a really lovely, slower style sort of vineyard with loads of heart, this is pretty much your stop, perhaps.

2. Kahurangi Estate: Organic Wines in a Breathtaking Setting

Kahurangi Estate might be located in a particularly attractive area, because the setting is nothing short of just, quite breathtaking! I understand what might draw someone to them. They put tons of importance, clearly, on practicing all-organic winemaking, because I noticed it is something they’re clearly passionate about. Seemingly that focus translates into wines that feel truly pure, very clean and expressive. That makes for a nice wine, honestly. Also in some respects you’re getting a tasting but seemingly also supporting practices that may align to whatever personal values that are pretty close to home.

A visit can very easily provide views of rolling vineyards because of where they are, the setting really offers, it’s almost, something of a serene experience. If the sun is shining you might appreciate the beautiful vista from the terrace. That might even influence which wines that you decide you favor, is that the outdoors enhances everything a bit, doesn’t it? Arguably the friendly staff will just guide you through all their offerings, perhaps like their notable Riesling or Pinot Gris. It has a reputation. Should you be wanting the mix of top quality wine and sustainability, that’s really the ticket I do suppose!

3. Gravity Winery: Biodynamic Practices with Stunning Views

Talking of sustainable, I’m almost sure you may want to hear what Gravity Winery has available if you feel like being more environmentally aware, and maybe quite fancy yourself as more health-conscious. In some respects they take things even further as they employ what are known as biodynamic practices in all of their winemaking processes, it seems. So it is like, you know, a really holistic approach. I suspect it goes a way in really promoting soil health along with biodiversity. Seemingly from what people have been saying their vineyard sits quite high up, so there are incredible panoramic views on show for people. Basically I reckon it’s a fantastic destination that seems perfect for enjoying both good wine but in some respects connecting a little to what mother nature seems to offer you, perhaps?

I hear that their selection might tend to lean toward being rather small batch in output. They put their emphasis, almost, completely on delivering premium wine. Should that not be of huge interest you should probably give that point more consideration! I also imagine some of the favorite choices for tasters there just might be their Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Any queries or extra information you might need on the wines I reckon their passionate team would be able to cover, is that everyone seems rather knowledgable. All of this makes for just something of an enlightening, if more thoughtful, experience overall I think!

4. Rimu Grove Winery: Boutique Wines and Artistic Flair

Should you love anything unique when on tour, I can imagine you loving this quirky idea: the Rimu Grove Winery is almost known just as much for being a bit arty, and being that tiny bit leftfield with all they create, which isn’t very commonplace is it. I believe they sort of emphasize their artistic influences. Is that it does, admittedly, draw quite a fun crowd. They are apparently pretty famous for their Sauvignon Blancs with their Rieslings too, but people say their Montepulciano can really grab the attention of more unusual grape variety appreciators. That could be a real point to have a bit of consideration over perhaps, yeah?

Their wines almost are as much just an experience in enjoying artisan crafted wares when on your tour, I think you’d like the tasting rooms just by how they come across. Actually they provide for, maybe, just the opportunity that might engage in appreciating fine artistic wares and culture with your drinks in the surrounds. In some respects they could just about call themselves cultural curators with how it plays out! The point to consider most is that this may be what is for those wanting their wine tours with, might be, some very interesting added dimensions!

5. Spencer Wines: Family-Run Charm and Stunning Rosé

If in any event you may appreciate smaller vineyards with loads of individual character, I suggest that Spencer Wines may likely grab your imagination a tiny bit perhaps? In some respects it’s just been set-up and maintained very well now as a boutique style offering run by a family for ages, maybe nearly twenty years as their reputation expands. People do often go out of the way in their travels that they could in effect be assured of receiving the sort of personal experience that makes travel such a treat with small owners. Maybe I would just very easily agree too. Almost the winery seems best thought of just because the whole vineyard comes across just in effect because of the close family bonds on display, that is what gives Spencer’s wines and services that extra punch I gather.

Often you might hear all and sundry going into a big, huge chat all on just how nice their Rose style tastes and apparently seems for local tasters in the area. Maybe because with some of their low volumes, maybe there has just only often been just small amounts available. However, maybe I would try that Rose that does get quite rated when people compare, particularly by local people, just if that helps perhaps!
