Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking & Hot Spring Review (2025)

Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking & Hot Spring Review (2025)

Breathtaking sunrise view from Mount Batur

Honestly, standing on top of an active volcano as the sun paints the sky is a feeling you just don’t forget. We decided to try the ‘Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking & Hot Spring’ all-inclusive package for 2025, and seriously, it was quite an experience from start to finish. I mean, you read about it, and you see the pictures, but being there is something totally different. This review is basically my way of sharing what the whole day is actually like, you know, beyond just the postcard photos. It’s for you, so you can decide if this very popular Bali adventure is the right fit for your trip. At the end of the day, it’s about making memories, right?

The Pre-Dawn Pickup & The First Steps

So, the day begins ridiculously early, like, 1:30 or 2:00 AM early, depending on where your hotel is located. A driver, thankfully, comes right to your door in a comfy, air-conditioned vehicle, which is a really nice touch when you’re still half asleep. In that case, you just stumble in and try to get a little more rest on the drive up to the Kintamani highlands. Next, you meet your local guide at the base camp, a person who, for all intents and purposes, will be your best friend for the next few hours. These guides are honestly amazing; they know the mountain like the back of their hand. They give you a flashlight and a walking stick, which you’ll definitely be grateful for. Clearly, the first part of the walk is through the dark, with just your little light beam and the stars above, which is actually a pretty cool way to start.

The Climb: A Rewarding Challenge

Okay, let’s be honest about the trek itself. It’s sort of a workout, but a totally manageable one for most people with average fitness. I mean, you don’t need to be a professional athlete or anything like that. The path starts off pretty gently, like a simple walk through some woods, but it gets a bit steeper and more volcanic in nature as you go up. This is where that walking stick really comes in handy, seriously. The ground can be loose with volcanic sand and small rocks, you know. Still, seeing the line of flashlights snaking up the mountain ahead and behind you is a very special sight. Your guide is typically very good at setting a pace that works for your group. For example, they’ll stop for quick water breaks and to let you catch your breath, so you never feel too rushed. It’s all about the steady push to the top, which really makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something.

Summit Breakfast with a Fiery Twist

Now, getting to the summit before the sun comes up is the goal, and it’s absolutely worth the effort. The air up there is just a little bit crisp and cool. Your guide will, you know, find you a great spot to sit and wait for the show to begin. And here’s a pretty unique part of the experience: the breakfast. Your guide will actually cook eggs and bananas using steam from the volcanic vents right in the rock. Frankly, eating a warm, steam-cooked breakfast on top of a volcano is one of those travel stories you’ll tell for a long, long time. As a matter of fact, the sky slowly starts to change from inky black to deep blues and purples. Then, just like that, the first sliver of brilliant orange peeks over the horizon, lighting up the clouds below you and revealing a massive caldera and Lake Batur. It’s completely and utterly stunning.

“I mean, watching the sunrise from above the clouds was just a surreal moment. The quiet of the morning and the absolutely amazing colors made the early start and the climb pretty much 100% worth it.”

The Soothing Reward: A Dip in the Hot Springs

After you’ve soaked in all the views from the top and taken about a million pictures, the walk down begins. You might be surprised that going down can be just a little tricky on the knees because of the loose gravel, but you take it slow. But here is the thing, you’re doing it in daylight now, so you can actually see the incredible landscape you climbed through in the dark. The views are, frankly, just as good on the way down. The best part of this all-inclusive package, however, could be what comes next. You are driven to a nearby natural hot spring. Slipping into that naturally heated mineral water is, honestly, the most perfect way to soothe your tired leg muscles. Most of these places have several pools with different temperatures, and you get a pretty great view of Lake Batur and the surrounding mountains right from the water. At the end of the day, it feels like an incredible reward.

Breaking Down the “All-Inclusive” Package

So, what do you actually get with an “all-inclusive” deal like this? It’s important to know what’s covered so there are no surprises, you know. Basically, it’s designed to make the whole day as smooth as possible for you. The package typically takes care of all the little details. Generally, this is what you can expect:

  • Hotel Pickup and Drop-off: This is a big one. They’ll almost always pick you up from major tourist areas like Ubud, Seminyak, or Kuta in private transport.
  • Experienced Local Guide: You definitely get a professional guide who not only leads the way but also shares interesting facts about the volcano and culture.
  • All Entrance Fees: This includes the ticket to the Mount Batur area and, likewise, the entrance fee for the hot springs.
  • Trekking Equipment: More or less, they will provide the essential gear like a flashlight and a walking pole.
  • Simple Breakfast & Water: As I was saying, that unique volcanically-cooked breakfast at the summit and bottled water for the hike are usually included.
  • Towel at Hot Springs: You just have to show up, as a towel is often provided for you after your soak.

To be honest, having all of this arranged for you takes a huge amount of stress out of the planning. You just book it, set your alarm, and get ready for a really memorable day in Bali. It’s pretty much a hassle-free adventure.
