My 2025 Halong Milalux 5-Star Cruise Review (2D1N All-Inclusive)

That’s Halong Bay, and honestly, pictures don’t fully capture its magic. We had been planning this trip for a little while, and finding the right cruise felt, well, like a pretty big deal. There was a fantastic mix of authentic Vietnamese dishes, like fresh spring rolls and flavorful pho, alongside Western choices and, most importantly, a massive station of fresh local seafood—prawns, clams, and fish cooked in a number of different ways. We basically tried a little bit of everything and were seriously impressed with the quality.
Dinner was a slightly more formal affair, a multi-course set menu served in the elegant dining room. Each course was, in a way, beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked. The staff was incredibly attentive, you know, always there to explain a dish or refill your glass without ever feeling intrusive. Naturally, a Halong Bay cruise is not just about staying on the boat. The Milalux itinerary included a couple of really great off-board activities. Our first excursion was a trip to Luon Cave, where we had a choice between kayaking on our own or being rowed through in a traditional bamboo boat. We opted for the kayak, and actually, that was the best decision. Paddling on our own let us move at our own speed, getting up close to the limestone cliffs and quietly observing the monkeys that sometimes hang out on the rocks. Paddling through the low cave entrance and coming out into a serene, hidden lagoon was, frankly, magical. The water was so calm in there, it was almost completely silent except for the sound of our paddles.
The next day’s main event was a visit to Sung Sot Cave, or “Surprise Cave.” And well, it definitely lives up to its name. You have to climb a bunch of stairs to get to the entrance, but the effort is really worth it. The cave is unbelievably massive inside, with two main chambers that are just filled with stalactites and stalagmites lit up with colored lights. Our guide did a good job of pointing out interesting formations—like one that sort of looks like a dragon—and telling us a bit about the geology. It does get pretty busy with groups from other cruises, but it’s so big inside that you can usually find a spot to just stand and appreciate the scale of it all. As a matter of fact, the activities were a perfect balance to the relaxation on board.
The Vibe Onboard: Relaxation and Evening Entertainment
Beyond the scheduled events, the overall atmosphere on the Halong Milalux was just one of total relaxation. The sundeck, for example, was our favorite spot. It was huge, with plenty of sun loungers and shaded areas, offering a complete 360-degree view of the passing scenery. Just grabbing a drink from the bar, finding a comfortable chair, and watching the sunset over the karsts was, frankly, a profound experience. The colors of the sky reflecting on the water were just absolutely stunning. It’s a very quiet, almost meditative kind of beauty that you feel deep down.
In the evening, they offered a couple of low-key activities. There was a Vietnamese cooking demonstration on the sundeck before dinner, where we learned to make fresh spring rolls. It was actually fun and interactive. After dinner, they set up for squid fishing off the back of the boat. To be honest, we didn’t catch anything, but it was still kind of fun to try, just hanging out under the stars with other guests. The vibe was never like a loud party boat; instead, it felt very much like a floating luxury hotel, where the main attraction was the peace and the unparalleled scenery. At the end of the day, that was exactly what we were looking for.
