My Honest Review of the 2025 Private Full-Day Cruise to Sandbank and Kwale Island

The water temperature is, like, absolutely perfect though.

That Disappearing Sandbank: A Slice of Paradise, Basically.

After some swimming, you then head to what is, in a way, the star of the morning show: the sandbank. I mean, it’s literally just a patch of the most incredible white sand sitting in the middle of the ocean. The water around it has this kind of unbelievable blue-green tone that, well, you really have to see for yourself. The crew sets up a simple sunshade, and you basically just have time to relax here. You can go for a little swim in the very calm water, or, you know, just walk around taking a ton of photos.

Frankly, the ‘private’ part usually means you have your own boat and crew, not that you have the whole ocean to yourself. There are often other tour boats at the sandbank, but it’s a big enough area so you don’t feel too crowded.

Honestly, the lobster is often the best part, very fresh and cooked perfectly over coals. And stuff like fries and rice come with it, so you definitely won’t go hungry. By the way, if someone in your group doesn’t eat seafood, they typically have a chicken option, but you should probably mention it when you book. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and you can just take your time eating and, you know, sipping on a soda or a beer.

The Little Extras: The Baobab Tree and the Blue Lagoon.

After you’re pretty much stuffed from lunch, there’s a little more to see on the island. There’s a short walk to see this really, really old baobab tree that has fallen over but, like, is still growing. It’s actually quite massive, and you can even climb on it for a fun photo opportunity. Then, there’s another short stroll to what they call the blue lagoon, which is, basically, a natural swimming pool surrounded by mangrove trees. The water here is incredibly calm and warm, so it’s a really nice place for one last dip before you go. The water is, in some respects, a bit different here because of the mangroves, giving it a unique feel. The trip back in the late afternoon is usually just sailing, which is so peaceful. You just get to lie back on the cushions and watch the coastline go by, which is, in that case, a perfect way to end the main activities.

So, Is This Private Cruise Right for You? Some Real Talk.

Okay, at the end of the day, is this trip worth the money for you? If you are a couple or a family and, like, you just want an easy, all-inclusive day on the ocean, then absolutely. You literally don’t have to think about a thing; food, drinks, and sights are all sorted for you. It’s really great for people who love the idea of a boat trip, great seafood, and, you know, those picture-perfect sandbank moments. On the other hand, if you’re traveling on a very tight budget, this might be a bit of a splurge. Likewise, if you get seasick easily or are looking for some kind of extreme sport adventure, this probably isn’t the one for you. It is a very, very relaxing day, not a high-adrenaline one, you see. To be honest, the ‘private’ part means your own boat and crew, not that you’ll have the whole bay to yourself, which is something to remember.
