The Peak District, almost right in the middle of England, is, in some respects, more or less, a playground for those who, very, very much, enjoy getting active outside. Very often, people come for stunning hills, that often seem rugged, and the kind of open spaces, in a way, that could be seen as calling your name. Hiking & Walking: Trails with Tales

Peak District hiking, you know, it’s almost like your. stepping straight into one of those landscape paintings that very often you can see in some old art gallery or, possibly, even in some local café, basically. You’ve got, just a little, everything here, you know? You have got everything from gentle rambles that, honestly, just amble gently across some soft rolling hills that tend to be ideal for families and, of course, those lazy Sunday afternoons, to some, potentially extremely, challenging hikes that could be seriously putting even experienced walkers through their paces, still. One popular, fairly well-known, walk, could be Mam Tor. Known, by the way, as the ‘Shivering Mountain’, this one might be, in some respects, just a little, giving you views that are, really, worth every single step. The path is, pretty much, relatively manageable, and this walk offers up panoramic scenes across the Hope Valley, and you, arguably, may get the chance to see as far as Kinder Scout on a really very clear day. Then there’s the Monsal Trail. Following the route of an old railway line, the trail goes easy on you as it meanders its way through some quite breath-taking dales, you know? Think of impressive viaducts and, very naturally, some converted railway tunnels; it really makes for some, obviously, fantastic easy walking or even a very gentle bike ride too. For some more experienced hikers, that, in some respects, may have slightly sturdier boots, why don’t you try tackling the tricky heights of Kinder Scout? Its bleak plateau and often quite dramatic rock formations offer, you know, a little touch of wilderness, that will give you a lot to talk about, alright? The rewards? Oh, by the way, some simply unparalleled views and that extremely satisfying feeling of, by the way, doing something seriously challenging. Just that little bit of advice? Rock Climbing: Scaling New Heights

If, very possibly, you, just a little, fancy challenging yourself even more, how about trying a spot of rock climbing in the Peak District? As a matter of fact, it’s very, very well known, by the way, for its some very, very good gritstone edges, which can give some of the very best climbing experiences imaginable! Whether you’re just a beginner or some really seriously seasoned climber, you will very much find something that should tickle your fancy here, obviously. Cycling Adventures: Pedaling Through Paradise

Think of taking your bike, okay, and, of course, picture some gently rolling hills that tend to be going on for miles, really; add some, rather charming villages, you know, and of course some possibly breath-taking views, you know? Welcome to cycling, as a matter of fact, within the Peak District! So, very possibly, for some people wanting those almost gentle rides, or some much more thrilling off-road adventures, just, very, very few places can tend to come close, you know. As I was saying, The Monsal Trail we touched on when we were, kind of, talking about hiking, actually makes some brilliant cycling too, really perfect for just about everyone. Being traffic-free, that will really follow that old railway line making for a very, very easy and really very scenic ride too. Obviously, For those more adventurous people amongst us, those bridleways and a whole heap of the off-road trails across the Dark Peak area do offer, basically, some fairly thrilling challenges! Places like the Hope Valley tend to have quite a selection of routes giving some absolutely breath-taking scenery as a back drop as well, sometimes. So, remember! You, arguably, may be needing a mountain bike with some, really chunky tires to handle the terrain and the steep inclines that can easily sap your strength! Water Sports: Making a Splash

Very naturally, people probably aren’t thinking very instantly about the Peak District as some of the water sports, and they are, you know? With some very stunning reservoirs, it has, just a little, got lots to offer some water sport enthusiasts too, okay! At Carsington Water, by the way, arguably, some of the biggest of the reservoirs in the area, there’s actually all manner of the water activities taking place! Sailing, windsurfing, kayaking… just imagine making waves out on that some rather expansive water, that might be looking particularly appealing during the summer heat! Tuition and hire is very much often available at the center to, pretty much, cover all needs too. Manifold Valley actually offers some pretty exciting opportunities for, arguably, some unique water based activities. Every now and then, the river can actually disappear underground flowing through caves! So, therefore, you can actually follow it down into those caves too… If you don’t mind, and it might be a little strange to some, ‘Cave Tubing’. Armed actually with a tough inflatable tube you could find yourself very gently floating down, almost underneath, some local scenery!

Caving and Potholing: Exploring the Underworld

The Peak District sits mostly on top of some, really very interesting limestone bedrock, so you just kind of know that actually what’s going to happen, obviously, underneath is some amazing cave systems and those potentially long-winding tunnels too. You will never guess it to look at it, okay! You should prepare for heading underground so that you can experience another almost very hidden side to the Peak District’s natural beauty. But bear in mind that It does also require a head for heights too! The Speedwell Cavern is just a little bit unusual because, arguably, you could actually get there by taking a boat through the, by the way, almost flooded lead mine! But you will actually travel underground and see those various caverns while that knowledgeable guide will tell just about absolutely all! Very possibly, for that genuinely more authentic caving experience, why don’t you go on to some potholing?
