I mean, the sheer amount of gold is just kind of unbelievable. The Spice Souk was my personal favorite; the smells of saffron, cinnamon, and all kinds of incense were just incredible, really. Our guide, by the way, was super helpful and showed us how to haggle a little, which was actually fun.

Modern Marvels: From Jumeirah to The Palm

So, after soaking up the old-world atmosphere, we then drove towards the modern part of the city. First, we stopped at Jumeirah Beach, which, obviously, has that famous view of the Burj Al Arab hotel. Getting a family picture there, without a ton of other tourists in the background, was more or less perfect. Then, you know, we drove down Sheikh Zayed Road, which is that huge highway lined with all the skyscrapers. Seeing those buildings up close is just really something else. Finally, we went out to The Palm Jumeirah, that man-made island shaped like a palm tree. At the very end of it is the huge Atlantis, The Palm hotel, which is seriously an impressive sight to see. It’s pretty much a classic Dubai photo opportunity, right?

What Makes This Kind of Tour Stand Out? The Little Things.

You know, at the end of the day, it was the small details that made this a great experience. As a matter of fact, having a guide who could answer our kids’ random questions was really nice. He wasn’t just, like, reading from a script; he actually had interesting stories about living in the city and stuff. The tour operator provided cold water bottles, which was honestly a lifesaver in the heat. We basically just told the guide what we were most interested in, and he slightly adjusted the schedule for us. For example, we wanted to spend less time at the beach and more time in the souks, and that was, like, totally fine. It’s that kind of personal touch you just don’t get when you’re one of fifty people on a coach, really.
