Our hotel was, believe it or not, built into a cave, but it was really comfortable and modern inside. The main event for us in Cappadocia was the hot air balloon ride at sunrise, of course. I mean, you have to get up extremely early, but it is definitely one of those things you just have to do. You are sort of just floating there with hundreds of other balloons as the sun comes up, and well, it’s kind of hard to describe. Your guide, for instance, also takes you to see the underground cities, which is honestly mind-blowing when you think about people living down there. It is one of those places where a guide’s stories really make the history come alive, you know. He, like, showed us a small family-run place for lunch that was basically serving food cooked in clay pots, which was a very authentic experience.

Journeying Through History: Ephesus and Ancient Wonders

From Cappadocia, the trip sort of moves you toward the coast, and you spend a good bit of time driving through the countryside. It’s actually a really nice part of the tour because you get to see more of the real Turkey, you know. The next huge highlight is, like, the ancient city of Ephesus. To be honest, walking down those old marble streets is just an incredible feeling. You can literally see the ruts from chariot wheels in the stone, which is pretty much wild to think about. Our guide, as a matter of fact, was an expert on history, and he pointed out things we would have completely missed. For instance, he showed us some very old public toilets and explained how they worked, which was, well, really interesting. The Library of Celsus is the famous building you see in all the photos, and I mean, it is just as impressive in person. Having a private guide here is great because you can move at your own pace, sort of spending more time where you want and less time where you don’t. At the end of the day, you avoid the big crowds from the cruise ships, which honestly makes it a much better visit.

The Cotton Castle and Coastal Charm: Pamukkale and Fethiye

Alright, so next up was Pamukkale, which they call the ‘Cotton Castle,’ and well, it really looks like that. It is basically a hillside covered in white mineral deposits with these bright blue pools of warm water flowing through them. You have to take your shoes off to walk on the terraces, and it is just a really unique thing to experience, you know. It’s pretty slippery in spots, but you just take your time, like. The ancient city of Hierapolis is right at the top, so you get history and nature all in one spot, which is definitely cool. After that, the tour takes you to the Mediterranean coast, perhaps to a town like Fethiye or Kaş, anyway. This part of the trip is honestly more about relaxing. We had some free time to just, you know, wander around the harbor and enjoy the feeling of the seaside town. The pace is a little slower here, and it is a really nice change after all the history and sightseeing. The water there is this, like, unbelievable shade of turquoise, and just sitting at a cafe by the sea is, at the end of the day, a perfect way to process everything you’ve seen so far.
