1. Letchworth State Park: The “Grand Canyon of the East”
Really, you can’t talk about day trips from Rochester without mentioning Letchworth State Park first! I mean, it’s got a reputation to live up to! Really, what makes Letchworth special, in a way, is its accessibility. There’s definitely something for every skill level, from super-easy strolls along the gorge to much tougher hikes down into the canyon. As I was saying, Inspiration Point, for example, offers you super views with zero hiking needed, great for maybe those who’re not feeling very energetic! Then, so for something a bit more adventurous, you might want to consider checking out the Gorge Trail.
Now, if you are visiting in the fall, you see, the foliage here, I mean, it’s unbelievably out of this world. Then, so you get fiery reds, brilliant yellows, and burnt oranges, painting the whole canyon! You see, for those interested in a little more history, there’s the William Pryor Letchworth Museum, and frankly, it gives you neat insight into the area’s past. Basically, with picnic areas dotted throughout the park, I’m just saying, you’ll find no trouble at all spending a whole day soaking it all up.

2. The Strong National Museum of Play: A Kid (and Adult) Paradise
So, heading back into Rochester, just a short distance this time, we have the Strong National Museum of Play! That, to me, is almost the most fun you can have indoors, so definitely for the young and the young at heart! You see, it’s a fantastic choice for families and anyone who loves to get their hands on all sorts of things.

Like, you might get completely lost for hours exploring exhibits on everything play related, such as Sesame Street, comic books, and video games. Honestly, they have lots of interactive displays and classic games! So, in a way, it is one giant, interactive playground. Of course, what makes this so amazing, arguably, is that it brings together several generations with shared experiences in games and childhood memories. After all, do you remember Pac-Man? Or the original Barbie? So many of the pasts famous games have interactive play here!
Very much something else worth pointing out, as I was saying, the museum is super educational, in some respects! You might find this cool because of how they get to know the historical context, as it goes hand in hand with loads of hands-on enjoyment! Definitely try the Butterfly Garden there too!

3. Finger Lakes Wine Region: Seneca & Canandaigua Lakes

You’d find that you enjoy watching boats, and maybe a super romantic sunset over the lake! Then, if you prefer, there’s the nearby Beechwood State Park where you might get to enjoy some beautiful hiking.

5. Watkins Glen State Park: Gorge-ous Waterfalls
Again, for a totally breathtaking hike among tons of waterfalls, there are a good number of folks who will strongly urge you to travel on out to Watkins Glen State Park! In the meantime, found down near the southern tip of Seneca Lake, just a slightly longer drive from Rochester than Letchworth, it rewards you with stunning scenery. Oh, wow, you can get up close and touch some really neat and pretty waterfalls, walking right past, under, or even through them! So, as a matter of fact, there are some super impressive rock formations because of the water and elements constantly doing their work.
As I was saying, The Gorge Trail in particular will probably be super popular for you, because basically, it passes by nineteen waterfalls. Now, after your walk, there’s a good chance you will kick back and just enjoy all that the village of Watkins Glen has! Usually there is something cool, pretty, unique, etc! Check the museums and places to eat, though!
