1. Seville Great House: Echoes of History
First stop, and very important, is Seville Great House, too; it’s almost the place where history whispers, very specifically, through old walls. This location isn’t only a plantation house from long ago, as a matter of fact it represents so much more. Very honestly, it stands as a chronicle of Jamaica’s many different past chapters. You get there, you know, and suddenly you are seeing echoes of the Taino people, you get to experience the Spanish colonial rule, and finally, you see the days of British dominion as well. Walking those grounds, you feel that so much of our existence has just led up to here.
The Great House itself has a museum and a display. Very important, right?, it displays a collection of artifacts rescued from the ground. I mean literally dug up out of it. So very well done to whoever was on that archaeological excavation team. Looking at such finds, too, it’s almost like the layers of the past actually peel back one by one, and they’re pretty interesting to behold as they do. This place actually makes what might often feel like dusty old history books change into something real. Seville Great House also has these, too, pretty beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea, which makes for rather lovely pictures and moments of consideration, just while the weight of so much history settles into your soul.
