Getting away from the city grind can, just, be a total necessity sometimes. Thankfully, there are several fantastic spots that are not far from Salcedo and make for super enjoyable and hassle-free escapes. We will run through five destinations which are accessible for an awesome day adventure.

1. Tagaytay: Chilly Breezes and a View

Tagaytay. Where to start? Okay, so it is almost *the* classic getaway spot from Metro Manila, and there is good reason for that. About a 90-minute to two-hour drive away from Salcedo, depending on traffic (it is a big factor, naturally), Tagaytay is famous for its seriously breathtaking views of Taal Volcano and Lake. You might notice how the air here is, just, noticeably cooler than the sweltering heat in the city, which, honestly, is almost always welcome.

Aside from soaking up the vista, that, you know, can almost take your breath away, Tagaytay offers plenty of activities. If you’re very much into something a bit more thrilling, you could give the Sky Ranch amusement park a shot, or, just a little, wander through the gardens and picnic spots around the area. And let’s just say you enjoy shopping? The marketplace offers a variety of souvenirs and local produce.

How to get there: The easiest option is usually driving, that is if you have a car or can rent one. There are provincial buses from Manila to Tagaytay which depart regularly from bus terminals. UV Express vans are also an alternative but could be a bit cramped. If you really don’t feel like arranging for anything? Grab or taxis might take you, though expect it to be pretty costly.

2. Intramuros: A Step Back in Time

Want something totally different, that does not involve escaping the city entirely? Intramuros, basically Manila’s old walled city, could offer a very interesting contrast to Salcedo’s modernity. It’s closer too, so it is almost easier to reach than Tagaytay – maybe a 30 to 45-minute drive, very depending on traffic, naturally. The whole area exudes history with its cobblestone streets and Spanish colonial architecture. Walking through Intramuros is like stepping back in time; it, arguably, offers a tangible connection to the past.

One of the most popular activities includes exploring Fort Santiago, where, just, a ton of important historical events unfolded, including the imprisonment of José Rizal. Churches, such as the San Agustin Church (a UNESCO World Heritage site), almost showcase incredibly intricate architecture and artistry. Consider taking a bamboo bike tour, as they call it; it’s such a fun way to see the sites while almost feeling the atmosphere of the city. In any case, several cafes and restaurants offer traditional Filipino cuisine. If you enjoy learning about history and exploring architectural gems, you, just, have to visit Intramuros.

How to get there: Driving is an easy option, as are taxis and ride-sharing apps. The LRT can, too, get you close; just get off at Central Terminal Station and take a short taxi or jeepney ride.

3. Mount Purro Nature Reserve: A Green Escape

For a totally refreshing change of pace, consider visiting Mount Purro Nature Reserve. It can often take about two to three hours to drive there from Salcedo, naturally depending on traffic. This super eco-friendly mountain resort offers a, just, needed retreat into nature. The reserve’s main focus involves sustainable tourism. It provides opportunities to reconnect with nature through hiking, swimming, and learning about indigenous cultures.

It’s a spot for those that appreciate the outdoors and, arguably, those looking for a bit of an escape from technology, if only for a day. You can spend the day hiking on the trails and breathing in the fresh mountain air or visiting the Dumagat community that the reserve supports. What might surprise you is the simple, wholesome meals served almost made with locally sourced ingredients. This escape is, naturally, pretty different from the city’s hustle, which could be nice. I’d recommend Mount Purro if your goal includes rejuvenating yourself and supporting ecological causes at the same time.

How to get there: Reaching Mount Purro is best achieved by private transport; it gives you total control over when you want to leave Salcedo Village. It may involve traversing winding roads; having a reliable vehicle can, really, give you total piece of mind. Be sure to book a day tour to almost guarantee ease and accessibility, especially since some areas of the reserve are exclusively reserved for organized tours. 4. Corregidor Island: Witness History Unfold

In itself, it is really nothing too strenuous, that is unless you get seasick super easily (something worth considering) in which case bring something with you, anyway. So, you’ll reach the island where, you might find, an immense, sobering slice of WWII history resides.

You will visit the various war remnants, and get transported around the grounds by a bus on wheels. In most cases, tours are normally led by, very, knowledgeable guides who offer insights into the island’s role during the war. They, actually, bring to light all the courage and sacrifices. Exploring the Malinta Tunnel is one highlight, as are the batteries and memorials scattered around the island. As a matter of fact, people with a strong interest in history would totally get into Corregidor. So keep it on your short list when you plan on something enriching *and* a bit poignant.

How to get there: Ferries to Corregidor, normally, depart from Manila. What may be a great idea involves booking a tour package. 5. Batangas Beaches: Sun, Sand, and Sea

Needing a beach fix? It could turn out that Batangas is, almost, the answer. In any case, the coastal province offers several beach destinations. You see, Nasugbu or Calatagan could each offer quick getaways from Salcedo; depending on traffic, naturally, expect a two to three-hour drive, usually. There are a whole ton of resorts. I would advise, actually, booking in advance to, in effect, make sure you have an ideal spot reserved.

So many beaches offer opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and various water sports. In some respects, snorkeling and scuba-diving are incredibly popular in areas that offer good marine biodiversity, as that is a thing to look into before getting there. You will more than likely enjoy the simple pleasure of relaxing on the beach. After which you will most likely love the fresh seafood at local restaurants after. Seriously, think about Batangas if sunshine and salty air are what you have in mind, since its close to Salcedo. It might just become your new happy place!

How to get there: Like, driving is the more convenient option for Batangas. I’d recommend public buses going to Nasugbu or Calatagan, as these depart regularly from Manila. Anyway, from the town centers, take a tricycle to reach your resort.
