Snorkeling Ras Mohamed & White Island: A 2025 Trip Review

Snorkeling Ras Mohamed & White Island: A 2025 Trip Review

Okay, so you’re in Sharm El Sheikh, and honestly, the Red Sea just calls to you. It’s almost this deep blue thing on the horizon that kind of whispers about hidden treasures under the surface. You’ve seen the pictures, you know, of the brightly-colored fish and the almost magical coral formations. The big question, really, is how to best see it all. There are so many boat trips, but the one that kept popping up was this combined tour to Ras Mohamed National Park and the famous White Island, you see. So, we decided to check it out for 2025, to see if it lived up to all the chatter. At the end of the day, a full day on a boat with promises of amazing snorkeling and a good meal seems like a pretty great way to spend a day in Egypt, right?

So, What’s the Morning Vibe Like, Actually?

Alright, the day usually kicks off with a hotel pickup in a little air-conditioned bus, which is, frankly, a blessing in the Egyptian heat. You sort of meet the other people on your tour, all with that same sleepy but excited look. Then, you know, you get to the marina, and it’s a pretty busy scene with all the boats getting ready. Our boat for the day was, in fact, a double-decker yacht, and it was really quite spacious. There was a sun deck up top with lots of mattresses for lounging and, you know, a shaded area on the main deck with tables and benches. The crew members, you see, were just super friendly right from the start, making jokes and helping everyone find a good spot. As the boat pulled away from the dock, a really nice breeze picked up. Actually, just cruising out onto the open Red Sea with the mountains in the distance is an experience in itself, sort of like the calm before the underwater storm of color.

Honestly, Getting in the Water at Ras Mohamed

Our first stop was, you know, inside the boundaries of Ras Mohamed National Park. The guides, as a matter of fact, gave a pretty clear briefing on safety and how to use the snorkeling gear. They had gear for everyone, but honestly, if you have your own mask that fits your face perfectly, you might want to bring it. Stepping off the back of the boat into that water is, I mean, a bit of a shock at first, but in a really good way. It’s so incredibly clear, it’s almost like you’re floating in a giant, clean aquarium. The sound of the world just kind of fades away, replaced by the sound of your own breathing. The guides were actually in the water with us, pointing out all the cool stuff. We saw these crazy-looking Parrotfish, you know, chomping on the coral. And there were little groups of Nemo-like clownfish hiding in the anemones, which was seriously amazing to see up close. The coral itself is, pretty much, a city of shapes and textures, full of life. It’s a very different world down there, and you just sort of get lost in it.

That ‘Gram-Worthy Moment: You Know, White Island

Next up was the stop that, to be honest, a lot of people were waiting for: the White Island. Now, it’s not a real island in the traditional sense. It’s more of a huge, raised sandbar that appears in the middle of the sea, kind of like a Red Sea mirage. The boat anchors a little way off, and you either swim or take a small zodiac boat over to it. The sand is, literally, unbelievably soft and white, and the water around it is this perfect shade of turquoise and super shallow. People, of course, were just scattered around, taking pictures, wading in the water, or simply sitting on the sand and soaking it all in. It feels a bit like you’re on the set of a commercial for a tropical paradise, you know? It’s a completely different vibe from the deep-water snorkeling. This stop is basically all about relaxation and getting those pictures that make everyone at home a little jealous. It’s a pretty unique spot, and seeing it rise out of the blue water is, frankly, a very cool part of the day.

Let’s Talk About Lunch on the Waves, Okay?

By the time you get back on the boat from White Island, you’re basically starting to get pretty hungry from all the swimming. The smell of food cooking on the grill, you know, is a seriously welcome thing. The crew prepares a buffet-style lunch, and it was, actually, much better than what you might expect from a boat trip. We had freshly grilled chicken and kofta, which were really flavorful. There was also some fish, a couple of types of rice, pasta, and, of course, several different fresh salads and pita bread. You just kind of grab a plate and find a spot in the shade to eat. Soft drinks, like cola, sprite, and water, were apparently available all day long, so you could just help yourself. Eating a warm, tasty meal while gently rocking on the Red Sea is, well, pretty much a perfect moment. It’s all very relaxed, with everyone just chatting about the fish they saw and showing off their photos. It’s a great way to refuel for the rest of the afternoon, definitely.

One Final Dip and the Ride Back, Basically

After lunch, there’s usually one more snorkeling stop, often at a different spot, which is pretty nice. This gives you another chance to, you know, jump in and see a slightly different collection of fish and coral formations. Sometimes this second spot is a little quieter than the first one. By this point, you’re pretty much a snorkeling pro, right? You just grab your gear and hop in. The late afternoon sun makes the light underwater look kind of magical, actually. Then, it’s time to head back to the marina. The ride home is typically very chilled out. A lot of people, you know, find a sunny spot on the top deck and just have a little nap. Others just stare out at the sea, feeling that nice kind of tired you get after a full day in the sun and water. The crew comes around with fruit, which is a really nice touch. It’s a bit like a final, sweet note to the day’s adventure. You get back to the dock feeling completely relaxed, a little salty, and honestly, with a phone full of incredible pictures and some amazing new memories.
