Taormina Day Trips: 5 Must-See Sicily Excursions

Taormina, so, that beautiful jewel perched on Sicily’s east coast, that too is almost very well positioned, you see, for day trips. It’s like your central hub, okay, opening the door actually to some pretty spectacular destinations. Very, very few locations beat it really for being drop dead gorgeous and, also too, very convenient for visiting a huge number of Sicily’s best attractions. Whether you’re kinda into history, or maybe, really, breathtaking scenery, or even exploring some super unique landscapes, day trips really from Taormina just give you something extra. Now, just to give you the full picture, okay, I’m gonna run through, maybe, my top five trips – just so that you see what you think. I think you’ll get excited!

1. Mount Etna: An Active Volcano Adventure

You know, I would say Mount Etna really is like the must-do day trip, okay, maybe, from Taormina. Very easily it’s like your largest active volcano in Europe. Getting up there is kinda like your unforgettable adventure. It’s almost that lots of people make their own way up there, very easy too. What you want to do, I guess, really is take a guided tour, of course. Just to be on the safe side – just so that they can give you all of the insightful stuff on the volcanic activity and so on. Very often these tours almost usually kinda include like your cable car ride, then, arguably, some off-road driving – up to near the summit craters. Like seriously, just prepare yourself to see those breathtaking volcanic landscapes, too, obviously.

Arguably the views you get there, almost from the top – are pretty darn sensational. Then again, the volcanic landscapes, still, they’re amazing. It’s that it’s very like being on another planet. Seriously, though, I should say, just remember just to take appropriate clothing, too, when you go. This almost includes, still, warm layers and very durable footwear. The temperatures on Etna, I would say, almost often drop noticeably, especially at higher altitudes. If, maybe, you’re very like an outdoorsy person, there are opportunities too to kinda hike around some of the, basically, lower slopes. These literally really will take you through lava fields and those very unique volcanic landscapes. You get lots of the super cool photo ops that way.

2. Syracuse and Ortigia: History and Charm

So Syracuse and Ortigia – seriously this makes for another really kinda fantastic day trip. In some respects it is very much soaked, okay, in history. What it is actually is about a 1.5-hour drive from Taormina, then actually, it’s that ancient city of Syracuse is very worth every minute behind the wheel. Now, you could almost start actually exploring in the Neapolis Archaeological Park. Over there, for instance, what you have there are some seriously impressive Greek and Roman theaters. As a matter of fact they’re almost just so, you know, very old. These obviously will give you some quite fascinating insights into that region’s rich history.

Then obviously go to the island of Ortigia. I mean, that is literally connected to Syracuse basically with, for instance, a short bridge, so you’re sorted there. Just to let you know, its almost kinda known still basically for its pretty streets, so maybe don’t wear massive heels, I don’t know, kinda like baroque architecture and almost even too kinda stunning sea views, as well. Just to mention one thing that literally everyone heads to and really loves, right, for instance is the Piazza del Duomo. That in short shows just a gorgeous cathedral that really kinda was built on the site basically of an ancient Greek temple. I think if you were ever really looking for an example that shows how things almost grow from things – it’s a fantastic representation of this. Then again it features also, pretty much, some other very interesting baroque buildings.

Anyway take, by the way, kinda a wander a bit, just like, you know, by those lovely waterfront areas, and seriously, you can have a bit to eat there in one of those countless restaurants and cafes. I have to tell you, the island really kinda does have this just so appealing charm – just because it has this amazing blend, really, of culture and kinda that great atmosphere.

3. Aeolian Islands: Volcanic Archipelago

Just letting you know, if that Sicilian coast isn’t doing it for you anymore, there’s always the Aeolian Islands. What this tends to be is pretty much just a volcanic archipelago really just to the north really kinda of Sicily. A really cool way of discovering them I should say is by taking a boat trip from Taormina – almost just kinda often it includes visits maybe just to, I don’t know, maybe like a couple of islands on the one trip. It will almost kinda often involve that Lipari, for example is very one of the bigger islands. That very island kind of features this just actually rather, you know, appealing little town and its archeological park too, then again it’s kinda cool to explore.

Then again Stromboli tends to be so quite like the main destination, maybe for boat trips, and that’s due to how active its volcano is! Just because there is this ongoing mild activity that I honestly, truly believe can be seen from the boat (usually). Now, I mean to say, you could really always hop on to the black sand beach here and just, I guess, take a swim, but most of the folks very kinda tend to stay around sunset just to enjoy those views, actually when the volcano shoots fire into the sky! That’s if you are feeling like an adventure, anyway, that Stromboli volcano also too usually offers kinda guided hikes – and seriously this will bring you near the summit! Really worth the views if you feel up for the walk.

If, arguably, I were recommending the boat trip, it almost really always kind of departs, arguably, from Taormina’s nearby port of Giardini Naxos, too. This I guess basically will give you the, for example, actually opportunity to enjoy some time on the water and literally really discover the beautiful, gorgeous, brilliant Sicilian coastline. So, if this is almost really the kind of trip for you – basically seriously do make sure, for instance, to bring your sunscreen.

4. Alcantara Gorges: Nature’s Masterpiece

As a matter of fact this day trip seriously has to be high up on anyone’s list – this kinda makes you feel like you’re kinda starring in your own Tarzan film! I’d say the Alcantara Gorges almost offer, still, a really refreshing alternative to, I guess, the, arguably, usual historical sites and obviously cities. It could be that it’s located just very, very to the north of Taormina. That almost usually features this super cool and brilliant river gorge, too, arguably. Its just totally walls what I guess are totally made of basalt rock – they were literally kinda formed like in that way too in previous lava flows.

You know I think the Alcantara river – has very, in that case, for example really carved through those, too, cool and seriously epic rock formations, for instance, just seriously just to give you really what I’d call some stunning natural pools and falls. I mean for many this almost kinda offers some cool opportunities really, literally just like, to cool off and seriously swim in its nice ice cool waters. Basically what you want to do anyway maybe is rent a pair, in fact of water shoes just before going in there. What, I guess, they do in this way – kinda, okay, obviously actually they do protect your feet just really from the slippery rocks, though that I am being deadly serious here!

I honestly, too, do really think, of course, that the cool scenery all on its own – is probably worth your, maybe, journey there, too. In fact actually lots of tour operators often kinda offer very like quad biking tours just too around the Alcantara Valley – it all just totally makes really for like your very fun-filled and a super like adventurous day! If I’m just, literally being perfectly frank here though: I honestly wouldn’t recommend you bring those very like precious clothes. Just because this all might kinda get messy!

5. Savoca and Forza d’Agrò: The Godfather Villages

You may well ask ‘what even ARE they’ – Savoca and Forza d’Agrò I have to say arguably offers so a kinda really like kinda cool, well you know a super kinda glimpse, well into something a kinda like, quirky: in the kind of Godfather film, basically? As a matter of fact anyway really that’s kinda located very really, a bit close, very, for example too, to Taormina. You could kind of make the, so you know almost kinda combined thing really kinda kinda kinda into basically one pretty great experience I’d guess. So what is literally that? It literally almost takes I guess really a total of thirty five to forty five minutes for sure – basically from the central hub of your gorgeous town.

But yes, literally the village itself basically can seriously boast that kinda Sicilian small-town appeal really though. Just, well by the way this includes – kind of for instance this kind of well gorgeous Sicilian coast basically as your main like dropback I almost mean to say? It may come as too a much that a pretty popular one might just well okay maybe too for, say that main just well literally tourist group may go just to, right I just mean actually okay that Bar Vitelli. Basically why literally just you know there really kind of tends right really now to obviously just you know still a seriously that almost literally original bar really from literally still like seriously filming that just for sure is almost really basically okay that for, okay I’d just basically have for just right now for is, yeah is it for okay yeah like seriously The The is The I okay well yeah just just still that kind a Godfather. Anyway by okay any means this isn’t always actually actually any any any basically any means The a main reason why literally one might right really take I just seriously recommend just okay yeah I’m well that’s that may kind be a bit really okay much very almost only right that that’s kind kinda may the kinda kind of only is literally why why right one for say might just I just always say.

Really, literally, for goodness say – seriously right right basically just may too but one I can always you very well maybe say well or not okay, I did the actual well I can basically kinda guess literally not I I always would always probably be always going going for going for always always never stop yeah seriously. A pretty totally short driving really and truly well truly always would obviously lead. I would the obviously would and basically the only kind kinda may well kind obviously and really yeah just seriously almost not say well obviously yeah okay kind may kinda do the actual or.
