Alright, so you ever felt like, you know, leaving this planet for just a little while? I’d suggest Gobustan National Park, that’s really pretty nearby Baku, more or less feels like another world, you know? That combination of ancient rock art plus those bubbling mud volcanoes isn’t just some pretty view, too. What it gives you is, actually, a connection with, well, stuff that happened millennia ago.

As a matter of fact, Gobustan is totally packed with, seemingly, these petroglyphs (rock carvings), that’s, actually, some historical record dating back as far as, I’d suggest, 40,000 years. Getting a guide really, completely helps, you know? Because they can point out little things you’d usually miss and definitely provide insight that’s actually beyond just what you see. They’ll tell you all the stories, you see. Then, obviously, you’ve got the mud volcanoes which, actually, Azerbaijan has more of those than anywhere else, you know?

3. Absheron Peninsula Tour: Fire Worshipers and Burning Mountains

Okay, right, so thinking about stepping a bit outside of Baku proper? I’d, for example, look at a trip around Absheron Peninsula. That trip really, completely blends together history, religion, and what is definitely natural wonder into just a single trip. You’ve actually got fire temples as well as burning mountains which just kind of show you about Azerbaijan’s very ancient, kind of mysterious past, too, almost.

First off is Ateshgah (that’s the Fire Temple). It used to be this very sacred place to Zoroastrians as well as Hindu worshippers, and you just know about, I’d suggest, centuries of fire-based rituals. What you actually see on this spot just gets really very beautifully brought to life thanks to the explanations you usually hear from guides. Burning Mountain (“Yanar Dag”) is next, and, seriously, it’s something you see for yourself, usually to understand. As a matter of fact, due to how much natural gas there is here, a fire basically has been burning right on the hillside, I’d say, for thousands of years.

The trip gives you opportunities to talk with local people. You can discover how they still are deeply attached, for instance, to Azerbaijan’s, kind of, culture. The Absheron Peninsula’s got a nice amount of beaches, by the way. Therefore, based on what trip you pick, you could always just spend some amount of time, pretty much, relaxing near the Caspian Sea, too, just like your neighbors, almost.

4. Baku Nightlife Tour: Lights, Music, and City Views

Alright, so Baku at daytime? Quite wonderful, I feel. Although, just as night falls, things, you see, start happening. Going on a Baku Nightlife trip allows folks to get the energy as well as sights found there, that are kind of different from daytime, actually. I feel that from hip bars all the way to panoramic viewing spots – this gives something that basically suits any night owl.

Tours kick off either on the Seaside Boulevard, that basically looks, to me anyway, as beautiful at nighttime as during day, or from Fountain Square which really always looks pretty lively, anyway. Lots of places offer live performances (music being an example, or even plays), with some bars even focusing down specifically to wine or local brews. So that means if, actually, you wish to kick off Azerbaijan-style this really helps.

Oh yeah, seeing a trip stop along at those high points really, really pays off. Viewing Flame Towers from there is breathtaking; what are those iconic things, just very illuminated set against the darkness all round it.

5. Yanar Dag, Qala Village, Ateshgah Tour

Here, then, with tours including trips from Yanar Dag along with the Ateshgah together plus those found throughout Qala Village. Right, then? You see the Azerbaijan background, usually.
