Barcelona, is that just a pretty cool place to be, right? Yet, once you’ve hit all the main spots – La Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, the Gothic Quarter – maybe you get that feeling like needing just a bit of change. If that happens, there’s good news! 1. Discovering Montserrat: Spiritual Heights and Breathtaking Views
So, Montserrat, it’s almost this really special mountain and monastery that you find a bit inland from Barcelona. It’s really like one of those places where history and spirituality kind of bump into each other, framed by awesome views. The Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey kinda sits up there, seeming as though it grew right out of the rocks themselves. You’re gonna be quite amazed at the architecture, as a matter of fact.
People come from all over to just glimpse the Black Madonna (La Moreneta), the pretty beloved patron saint. Even if you’re not exactly religious, the artwork and like, real quiet feeling in the basilica are honestly pretty captivating. Yet, the hike to the top? Oh man, that gives you views that you can hardly even believe are real. Honestly, you can look out at seemingly all of Catalonia.
What to do:

2. Exploring Girona: A Walk Through History
So, Girona, in some respects, it’s like a super underrated jewel. It’s just north of Barcelona, and you know, it’s steeped in lots of history. That said, it’s very likely it’s really picturesque too. Think about kinda wandering around streets where bits of “Game of Thrones” actually got filmed – seriously! The Old Quarter is, like, a maze of winding alleyways and old buildings.
The Onyar River, that flows, too it’s almost straight through the city, adds such color with pretty colorful buildings sitting right along the banks. The Girona Cathedral is, like, hard to miss – in that case, just try to wander round to it. People are in awe of this one massive Gothic structure, if I’m honest.
The Jewish Quarter, really also known as Call Jueu, is one of Europe’s kinda best-preserved. Just take a slow walk there, and maybe feel like, the history surrounding you. The Arab Baths are just another gem, actually, it’s very worthwhile seeing.

3. The Pretty Charming Cadaqués and Cap de Creus
Oh, Cadaqués, that very seaside spot – well, it feels like, pretty distant. It’s set over in the very northern end of the Costa Brava. So, if you kinda want somewhere quiet that artists loved (Dali especially) then I really believe that’s the right choice. The whitewashed buildings and blue sea look simply great, you know.
Maybe walk over a little, and you find yourself in Cap de Creus Natural Park. Arguably, it’s where the Pyrenees just meet the sea, giving the most wildly rocky coast. So, find that perfect spot for watching an incredible sunset. People love diving and snorkeling in the bays near Cadaqués, if you, like your, a water sport person.
What to do:
- Wander around Cadaqués village. Just have that, that perfect seafood meal.
- Walk around Cap de Creus Natural Park for amazing landscapes.
- Take a short trip to visit Salvador Dalí’s House, well it is a must if you can.
Getting there: In that case, drive; arguably, it’s the kinda scenic route but longer, though very pretty. Maybe buses run from Figueres too.

4. Tarragona: The Roman History Near the Sea
Tarragona has been here, really, very long time. So, you wander in here, the streets give that feeling like Romans actually just were roaming round. Once you’ve been, maybe you’ll remember the old amphitheater kinda facing the sea – amazing to kinda stop by and imagine people in those times. The Roman walls? By the way, some parts still are very noticeable!
It’s more or less like not everything’s history, however. The beaches feel fine; you might really just decide to lounge right down near the Med. You probably should ramble right down the Rambla Nova to kind of get a feel of, the present-day pulse, I feel.
What to do:
- Take a peek round Roman Amphitheatre, basically, see it all the way over, it really is spectacular.
- Maybe stroll round the old Roman walls for that historical peek.
- Kick back, well for example, at Platja del Miracle; probably spend hours in there in that gorgeous water.

Actually, Sitges, to be honest, feels a bit glamorous but relaxed! Just South side of Barcelona it really catches lots of rays; pretty much all wanderers simply spend their day right down there at, say, Playa de San Sebastián. That kinda vibe of village is very art-driven; many galleries really light up any visit you just take around in that region.
So, if you, for instance, visit while they are throwing that film bash, then very likely lots occur then! Walk, basically straight along that coastline or have yummy foods! Yet there is something happening – a perfect option from a bit loud town!
