1. Bogotá Pass: The All-Inclusive Option

The Bogotá Pass, it typically markets itself as the ultimate all-access ticket to the city. First, you get admission to numerous museums, tours, and attractions all wrapped into one convenient package. In some respects, it’s an appealing option if you’re one who likes to check every possible item off your list. However, consider that the real question is whether you’ll truly use every single benefit. Apparently, for a shorter trip, it might make sense to look at the pass’ total cost versus the individual prices of each activity. Basically, be as realistic as possible with your plans to ensure it’s really worth your cash. It also may depend on your travel style – are you a marathon sightseer, or are you happier exploring at a leisurely pace?

Gold Museum Bogotá

I went for this pass during my visit, figuring I’d visit every museum and attraction I could find. What actually happened? I enjoyed the Gold Museum. Really I did. The Botero Museum? Totally amazing. Very, running between spots felt a little bit too much like a race. You could find that you like just lingering longer in a charming plaza, enjoying some coffee, or striking up a conversation with a local. In fact, consider your tempo.

Verdict: A great option if you love seeing a bunch of attractions and are very committed to seeing as much as you can quickly. However, those who prefer a slow trip might save money buying individual tickets.

2. Monserrate Cable Car or Funicular Ticket

Monserrate, you know that mountain overlooking Bogotá, isn’t just a pretty view. Usually it’s an experience. And naturally, getting to the top is half the adventure. The options are: hiking (free, though pretty challenging), the cable car, or the funicular. Okay so, buying a ticket for either the cable car or funicular is pretty key, specially since that hike straight up can take a lot out of you. In some respects, the views from the top are breathtaking. And honestly they’re worth every penny for those photos alone.

Monserrate Bogotá

When I went, I opted for the funicular on the way up. I chose the cable car for my ride down to change things up. In reality, both give awesome perspectives of the city sprawling below. So basically, consider going on a weekday if possible. I am telling you this because it gets packed on Sundays because of the mass that happens up there in the church. Anyway, whatever time you go, buy your ticket, enjoy the ride. It’s a really unforgettable part of visiting Bogotá.

So you know, just outside of Bogotá is the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá. Actually it’s an awe-inspiring church carved inside a salt mine. Typically it’s something you really need to witness to believe. Now, the ticket covers not just entry but some tours offer transport from Bogotá. That said, tours give added information about the site’s history. Usually the architecture enhances the entire experience.

Salt Cathedral Zipaquirá

On my visit, I grabbed a tour including transport. Honestly I’m so grateful I did. So basically, the trip there by public transport can be a bit difficult. Really, having someone handle it all really helped, and I got way more out of the visit by hearing cool facts about how they made the cathedral and what it means. It almost feels otherwordly.
