1. The Coastal Route: Barcelona to Costa Brava

Very well, kicking things off, we have the classic: Barcelona to Costa Brava. That, basically, is one that’s probably already on your radar. Anyway, starting in Barcelona, that incredibly popular hub that very many people like, you’ll be able to point your car north, basically along the scenic coastal roads. The views? Oh my goodness, they’re stunning! Very steep cliffs, small coves, and turquoise waters just seem to call to you. As you drive, very do make time to stop in places such as Calella de Palafrugell, that picturesque little fishing village. You’ll like this so much! 2. Pyrenees Mountains Adventure

Now, for those that almost feel pulled by the mountains, there is a drive that absolutely deserves considering: a Pyrenees adventure. Very different, too it’s almost certain, from a beach vacation, but in this case, instead of following the coast, you go right into the heart of the Pyrenees. You know, the mountain range? That one? Starting from Ripoll, or possibly somewhere around there, you begin to wind your way up these gorgeous, dramatic mountain roads. Anyway, what can you expect? Picture very sweeping landscapes, small villages hanging onto steep hillsides, and, well, peace, actually. I mean lots of peace! So, does the idea of visiting vineyards, basically, driving through them, anyway, while drinking fantastic wines excite you just a little? Good, so this one might be right up your street. The Wine Route goes through Penedès and Priorat, which happen to be Catalonia’s premier wine regions. Not very surprising, is it? Anyway, leaving from somewhere such as Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (the Cava capital!), you’ll snake through vineyards that seem to never stop, very passing numerous bodegas, which are, obviously, wineries. Take your time and arrange tours and tastings. You know, that would add to the experience? In Priorat, the area is steeper and the wines tend to be fuller-bodied. For those who want more than just a “pretty view,” there’s the “Cultural Triangle.” This trip pulls together Tarragona, Lleida, and Montserrat, so too offering a dive into the area’s past and faith. So, you can begin in Tarragona, the place where, well, back in the days of the Roman Empire it used to be really important, which is why you can see a very large number of Roman ruins still! After that, head west to Lleida, which gives you its medieval vibe and hilltop cathedral. From Puigcerdà, which has the status of a border town close to France, get going on this scenic trip that is certain to take you past old villages, lush meadows, and high-altitude views.
