Set inside the absolutely stunning Charco Hotel, the restaurant, anyway, offers this kind of upscale vibe with, really, a relaxed feel. I mean, they totally nailed it. The setting, that’s facing the Río de la Plata, is pretty much breathtaking. Imagine sitting there, is that watching the sun dip below the horizon as you’re chowing down on some pretty spectacular food? It’s kind of unreal.

Their menu is filled with dishes made from local ingredients. So you’re talking fresh, seasonal stuff that just bursts with flavor, right? A lot of people seem to go absolutely nuts over their seafood options, it’s almost like the grilled octopus or the sea bass. I have tried, it’s absolutely outstanding. The flavors are always spot on, and the presentation? I mean, you could put it in a magazine, I am serious. La Posada del Gobernador Restaurant is actually snuggled inside this super charming, is that historic building, is pretty much oozing with old-world charm, right? This place gives you, in a way, a totally authentic Uruguayan dining experience, is that the kind you’ll remember, that’s for certain. The atmosphere alone, in that case, is worth the visit, actually. You’re looking at rustic stone walls, warm lighting, and just this overall cozy feel that makes you want to sit and stay awhile, too.

Their menu, like, has a really solid selection of classic regional dishes. One thing that really stands out, at the end of the day, is their commitment to sourcing local ingredients. So everything is fresh, really flavorful, and kind of supports the local economy too, it seems. They do have a parrillada, anyway, which is a grilled meat platter that’s just fantastic for sharing. It comes loaded with all kinds of different cuts of meat, right?, is that all cooked to perfection. I really enjoy having it all, it’s just the best way to sample a bit of everything. 3. El Drugstore

El Drugstore, well, is this kind of quirky and super charming spot, which combines a bit of a cafe, bookstore, and antique shop all rolled into one, if that makes sense? I have been told that it’s this perfect place to just chill out, look, when you’re kind of exploring Colonia’s historic district, is that not everything has to be go, go, go, you know? This place has got character in spades with shelves that are lined with books, old collectibles, and just this all-around cozy feel, very. It’s a real treat for the eyes, is that just walking around.

Menu-wise, they actually keep things pretty simple but really tasty. So you’re talking about good coffee, some lovely homemade cakes, sandwiches and maybe, arguably, empanadas, pretty much. This place is brilliant, really, when you fancy a quick break. Especially, well, when you need to recharge your batteries with a decent caffeine fix, very. Grabbing a coffee, then you’re sitting back reading a book surrounded by all this cool history, that, like, that’s hard to beat. This really provides a little escape in the middle of the old city, and something I think is worth the visit, even for a few hours.

4. Restaurant Ganache

Restaurant Ganache is actually a place you might fancy visiting if you like that classic French touch, alright? Nestled away in Colonia, what you get is just a bit of French elegance mixed up with some local flavors, which always provides something a little bit exciting.

Their menu is mostly a twist on old favorites, using great local stuff. So it’s fresh, well-prepared food, is that always beautifully presented. I would try the duck confit or the beef bourguignon because it’s absolutely unreal, and it’s kind of what they are famous for. And don’t just forget to check out their dessert menu – actually, the chocolate creations are to die for.

Is that besides the food, well, what really makes Ganache a bit of a standout is how nice the setting is. The decor really adds something extra to it, right?, the whole thing is really something you should give a try.

5. Viejo Tunel

Viejo Tunel is this very popular spot to just sit and relax, very. This bar-restaurant serves up fantastic food and really does it in a relaxed setting. Its location, you could argue, is awesome, anyway. Being right on the waterfront provides some pretty breathtaking views, look. Is that because this place has both indoor and outdoor seating, you get to enjoy some amazing food whilst taking in a fantastic view? I have had the chance to enjoy the open-air terrace where you’re just gazing out at the Rio de la Plata. It’s super relaxing, alright.

The menu is focused on local cuisine, serving some really flavorful regional flavors. This is a good option when you need, say, some seafood, anyway. The seafood cazuela and grilled fish options come pretty highly recommended, you know. They offer lots of tasty empanadas too, with different fillings. To me, it’s nice when a bar serves local craft beers and Uruguayan wines, it is nice to taste something made nearby, really.

Viejo Tunel makes you feel like you’re somewhere special, mostly, for a simple lunch, I reckon. Because you are looking out onto pretty views whilst you’re trying regional classics. Not every bar gets that spot on, but this one kind of does, you know? I recommend going there when you would like somewhere to relax and get to know some Colonia specialties.
