East London is, you know, quite the happening spot when it comes to things that are artistic and generally pretty cool. 1. Whitechapel Gallery: More than just a Gallery, really.

The Whitechapel Gallery is more or less, like, a cornerstone of the whole East London art scene, wouldn’t you say? Opening way back in 1901, it’s not just any building, you see; it’s played host to, well, literally some of the hugest names ever in modern and contemporary art. People, like, Picasso, Pollock, Kahlo – really a massive range of super impactful artists have exhibited here, you see. What’s particularly cool is that it, actually, is free to get in and have a look at the main collection. So, you know, there’s, almost, no excuse not to wander in and soak up some serious culture. It’s almost constantly got some interesting exhibition going on, often highlighting work from new and also very established artists.

I recall popping in last summer when they’d, like, an exhibition focused on feminist artists – so thought-provoking, you see. That really stayed with me for days afterward, you know. 2. Street Art in Shoreditch: Art That’s Alive on the Streets, really

Now, if, really, galleries seem a bit stuffy for you, well then you may want to wander towards Shoreditch, too, where the art literally covers the streets, too. Shoreditch is famous for its, you know, pretty fantastic street art. What, in a way, makes this place really stand out is the ever-evolving canvas. So, that is what happens in Shoreditch – you know, murals appear overnight, tags get painted over, and, almost, every corner has some piece of artistic expression going on. It’s just almost so full of creativity.

To really get to grips with what you’re looking at, you might consider tagging along on a guided street art tour, that, well, does tend to be pretty good. Guides, really, know their stuff and can fill you in on the artists, their techniques, and maybe, also, the stories behind the artwork too. On one walk I went on, too, I found out a little that this mural which, you know, looked totally random actually had, kind of, a strong statement about social injustice – kinda blew my mind, I suppose. 3. Brick Lane: Where Culture Just Is Everywhere, very

Brick Lane is, too, just such an experience. The whole street is so, very vibrant with such an eclectic mix of culture, basically everywhere. Yes, it may be famous for its bagel shops and its pretty amazing curry houses. Yet, really, between the food joints, though, are pop-up art shops, vintage clothing stores, and loads of music places and venues, you know. This gives, too, Brick Lane a character, like, totally unlike anywhere else. It just vibrates with creativity and pretty raw energy.

Sundays here see the street buzzing with, too, the Brick Lane Market, which has just got literally everything, you know – from antique furniture to pretty unknown records and pretty unusual crafts. You can literally spend a full day rummaging through the stalls, grabbing food from all over, you know, basically the world, and people watching the really interesting folks who visit or who live right there. 4. Rich Mix: Art for everyone, apparently.

Rich Mix is, well, not so far from Brick Lane. It calls itself an arts center. What this implies is it has just a load of stuff going on, you know. The place contains three cinemas. This venue presents independent and, like, quite diverse films. Plus, there are performance spaces, too, and spaces that show gallery type art. There’s a number of events throughout the week, that may incorporate live music to theatre pieces to just all forms of visual arts too.

What’s particularly cool here, I mean, too, is that Rich Mix works kinda hard, actually, to be very inclusive. So that would indicate their pricing structure might vary quite a bit depending on whatever is financially achievable or possible. Plus, you know, they often put on workshops and projects so anyone locally may have a chance to get associated. The place itself just does tend to feel very welcoming and open, and, seemingly, really it wants to involve as many individuals as possible in the arts as achievable. 5. Columbia Road Flower Market: Flowers, of course, But more than just those, basically

Okay, you know, so maybe a flower market appears just a little off the wall on a listing for cultural locations. However, Columbia Road Flower Market is on Sundays. You see, that’s, in effect, an adventure for all your senses. The air vibrates just with the, like, rather cockney voices of the flower vendors, shouting out their bargains, intermixed, as it were, with all the smells of freshly cut flowers. Oh, it is absolutely wonderful, certainly.

What makes this more than merely just somewhere that sells flowers is, very simply, the ambiance plus all the, kind of, little independent stores lining the street. Loads of them are art galleries plus antique shops and cafes. They tend to throw their doors wide open during market day. In this way, that allows you to enjoy some local art plus purchase some unusual pieces. I like to grab a coffee plus wander, kinda looking, you know. One day I might pick some lilacs and enjoy just what a pretty joyful vibe this place always manages to throw off. • You may want to make sure you have a plan that lets you visit various places. Then you could enjoy an abundant collection of places plus art forms.

• Do not forget you could use public transport and/or personal transport options if achievable to enjoy more with a whole lot less stress, really.
