Top 5 Gruyères Day Trips: Cheese, Chocolate & Charm

So, Gruyères, with its hilltop castle and, too, that oh-so-good cheese, it is a pretty neat starting point for Swiss adventures. Day trips, they give you even more views of Switzerland, and there are sights, tastes and experiences you might like.

Gruyères

1. Broc: A Chocolate Lover’s Dream

Very close to Gruyères, Broc is that place where chocolate dreams come true. Is that something you fancy? Very many times the reason is the Maison Cailler chocolate factory.

There, at Maison Cailler, so, you get this, like, super engaging tour. You can learn how chocolate is made, right from the bean to that yummy bar we all love, right? And, naturally, it’s almost compulsory to, in a way, sample a bunch of chocolates. My oh my… is that for me! We basically spent an entire afternoon just inhaling that aroma, you know? But that is worth it. Very worth it, in that case! So, too, that village of Broc, that has its quiet charm, for a gentle wander afterward, and it’s perfect for walking. After that chocolate indulgence, you could argue that that is precisely what you need!

2. Charmey: Relaxation and Scenery

Charmey is not far and offers a seriously soothing mix of mountain views and wellness options, and that includes the famous Bains de la Gruyère, by the way.

This contemporary spa is the spot for some chill time, right? As I was saying, there are thermal baths, saunas, and it overlooks the Prealps – quite a sight. Then again, outside the spa world, the cable car lifts up to Vounetz, and you get outstanding panoramic views. If you are into trying something a bit active, you may also like to hike round and about. We kind of took one of the shorter routes, just enough to stretch those legs a bit, by the way. And too, that feeling you have! With every little puffing it was absolutely fantastic to take in those mountain views, you see!

3. Gstaad: Glitz and Glamour in the Mountains

Then, so, for something that is rather extravagant, go to Gstaad. Maybe it is about an hour or so away, still, it is worth the drive, if you want some fresh air. It is extremely well known, actually, because of being the place to go for celebs, also, like, just because it has a charming village that it’s all made out of wood and the chalets.

While you window shop at fancy stores or you just see those views of the Alps, too. That Oldenhorn Glacier is really attractive, to go visit! You’ll never be bored here. I recall just chilling in a cafe, that time when, and, frankly, watching all the fancy cars pass – which is not for me – by itself it becomes something cool. And you will have to agree with that.

4. Montreux: Lakeside Beauty and Freddie Mercury

Montreux is almost always down by Lake Geneva, is that right? Anyway, is perfect if what you fancy are views that will sooth you and something of culture, too.

Montreux Switzerland

Very nearly strolling by the waterfront is amazing, that! Also, too, there’s that Freddie Mercury statue, and if you do go and see the Chillon Castle, that has a bunch of past stories of when it used to be a fortress, right? Montreux keeps you busy like a bee! Very very busy! We took an, in a way, cruise over the lake once, too, and I was left really impressed! It did show some other views of this land from a whole other perspective, yeah.

5. Gruyères Itself: More to Explore

Hold on, even Gruyères town you might find something more, as, even though it seems rather little, there is an unexpected amount to go explore here.

Gruyères Switzerland

Clearly, you should drop in at Gruyères Castle, to get panoramic views that will surprise you a lot, so go! So that HR Giger Museum (from the “Alien” movies), well, actually it is bizarre. Just take a look in its cafes, you’ll agree they are special! The Cheese Factory it can be a cool quick tour, just the way the cheese is made (it tastes terrific, BTW!). And too, walking just casually round the town becomes almost the most lovely time! But so the cobbled lanes plus the ancient-styled construction might actually send you back to past eras, yes.
