Alright, so Hoonah, Alaska. Very, very cool destination, I will say! Often called a gateway to wild Alaska, this spot definitely delivers with, like, untouched scenery and an authentic look into Tlingit culture. That is, if you want some true adventure. If you are heading there, you’ll probably want to think about what the best way to actually soak in all that Hoonah has to give, which is plenty of outdoor stuff! Whether you’re super into spotting wildlife, hiking, or discovering a bit of local heritage, Hoonah might just have something for you. That place is, actually, pretty special, very, very unique too.

1. Whale Watching and Wildlife Tours

Oh man, whale watching, it’s almost a classic Alaska move. And out near Hoonah, around Icy Strait, might just be one of the prime spots to check it out! Imagine this: You’re on this boat, right? Then, BAM! Humpback whales. Totally breaching! Very stunning, like, something right out of a nature documentary. These tours aren’t just for seeing whales though. 2. Hiking the Spasski River Valley

Want to hit the trails instead of being on the ocean? Yet, the Spasski River Valley has a pretty cool hike! This area provides, almost, unreal views, and a great chance to just soak in Southeast Alaska’s untouched beauty. That the trail itself goes along the river, heading through dense forests and, in some respects, opening up into clearer spots, it’s very great for taking pictures or just appreciating everything around you.

That the trail isn’t super hard is just a great thing too. Pretty much anyone can do it, is that really nice? Yet, always be prepared, OK? 3. Exploring Icy Strait Point

Okay, so Icy Strait Point! Often it’s really the first spot you’ll actually see if you come in on a cruise. Yet, do not make the error of assuming this place is just for tourists getting off cruise ships. Basically, the spot does so much. Besides having all those shops and food spots, this area boasts, arguably, some thrilling outdoor experiences. This actually starts with the ZipRider, you will fly over the rainforest down to the water! Also there are walking trails all near, plus a chance to witness some live Tlingit cultural presentations.

Take the Transporter for something with more culture, then! Yet this spot delivers tons of background about the area, talking about the salmon industry or how Tlingit folks settled here way back when. 4. Tlingit Cultural Experiences

Hoonah is more than just a really pretty face. Right, it has some amazing cultural stuff too. Very rich traditions are really apparent everywhere, which links it straight to its Tlingit roots. A visit can be so enriched by soaking up some Tlingit culture, arguably by attending some presentations, art shows, and local performances. Getting the shot to talk with local artists or performers? It can really up your insight and, honestly, connect you way more to the place. What do I mean? They are sharing the legends that made the place, and what matters to its inhabitants, is what they do! You too can be part of that by seeing what the community loves! That means it has a better impact than just wandering.

Look into the Huna Tribal House for something specific, then. This place organizes cultural happenings that show off classic Tlingit customs or stories. It is, after all, where their people present dances. Oh, and demonstrations that actually pass along old-school artistry, really, it’s a killer visit, too. 5. Fishing Excursions

You like fishing, huh? That waters around Hoonah are chock-full of fish! Very many, almost.
