Top 5 Lautoka Classes: Reviews and Recommendations
Lautoka, that’s Fiji’s second city, isn’t it, and it’s almost always got something going on? From learning a new skill to just plain old fun, it offers quite a selection of classes and workshops. I mean, picking just five to talk about here was quite the job, yet, I’ve tried to collect options with broad appeal, things that lots of you, you know, might be very keen to get involved with.
1. Lautoka Cooking School: Savoring Fijian Flavors
Are you super into cooking or keen to get a grip on Fijian cuisine? That Lautoka Cooking School, wow, I’ve heard it’s just awesome, you know, for anyone keen to discover genuine local tastes. I mean, the way they work, that’s hands-on, right, and you actually get to prep classic dishes, maybe things like Kokoda (that’s raw fish marinated in coconut cream, by the way), or even a yummy Lovo (that’s food cooked in an underground oven).
I mean, the classes themselves, they tend to be fairly intimate, right, it’s almost like they’re making sure everybody really gets a feel for those techniques and, clearly, it’s not just a cooking lesson. I’d argue, it’s rather a look into the heart of Fijian culture. Apparently, chefs will walk you ’round local markets too, in a way you pick up super useful skills, right, that helps you pick the best ingredients, and clearly understand where local food comes from, really. 2. Volivoli Diving: PADI Certification Courses
Right, if the ocean calls to you, and wow, it can be so persuasive round these islands, Volivoli Diving that’s in nearby Rakiraki (so it’s a little drive away) is a popular spot, apparently, for grabbing your PADI certification. It almost has something to offer all levels of divers. Actually, starting with courses for total beginners right through, perhaps, to advanced qualifications. I mean, I’ve only heard tales of the place, yet everybody says instructors are fantastic.
That’s probably one way to say the courses usually cover all the stuff, isn’t it: from theory right, to practice, so that’s your open water sessions too, in some respects. And they often make sure the groups are just a bit small, really that means each student tends to get tons of personal guidance, wow. More or less, you finish feeling super confident and actually really ready to discover Fiji’s superb underwater sights. See Prices, Availability & Reserve Now (Find Your Dive)

3. Hot Glass Fiji: Glassblowing Workshop
Fancy doing something properly creative? Hot Glass Fiji, which I believe is located nearby, runs workshops that gives you, like your real taste, of what it’s like working with molten glass, like in a way they turn sand into some sort of amazing art, that, to me, I think sounds amazing. I mean, it’s pretty physical.
Is that right? I’m talking blowing and shaping glass and everybody says their team’s seriously helpful. Also, so, really patient too. Is that right? I guess that lets pretty much anyone regardless, if they’ve had any artistic experience before or, indeed, not make, well, what some may call is their unique souvenir of Fiji. 4. Lautoka Community Arts Centre: Local Craft Classes
Right, that Lautoka Community Arts Centre, wow, that, apparently, is right at the cultural hub of the city, in a way and if you’re looking to mix with some locals, well it usually has different types of courses covering loads of usual Fijian crafts, things such as pottery, weaving, or even masi painting, just a little. Actually, these classes often let you connect properly with that community and understand their classic art forms, wow.
Maybe, I’d argue, a visiting tutor would make a big difference too. Anyway, it seems they’re actually keen to preserve the real creative spirit within Fiji. Basically, it sounds like the instructors not just show how, however in a way, they share the tales behind these crafts, wow, the real importance of such things across Fijian life.
