Top 5 Nîmes Day Trips: Uncover Provence’s Gems

Nîmes, often called the “French Rome,” makes it very, very easy to use as a solid base to see so much of Provence. It’s just that kind of place, where you can spend a day exploring Roman arenas, that is, before venturing out into the scenic countryside. 1. Avignon: A Papal Palace and so much more

So, first up, Avignon, which is only about an hour’s drive from Nîmes, is practically begging for a day trip. Actually, it is quite known for the Palais des Papes, a huge, that is, quite impressive palace where the popes chilled way back in the 14th century. 2. Uzès: The Very First Duchy of France

Uzès, and it is only a short hop from Nîmes. That is, at just around 30 minutes, it is really nice and quaint, that is, very Provencal. The Place aux Herbes, which is the central square, that, too it’s almost always busy. Particularly on market days which has the smells of local produce and flowers floating all around, so it’s a blast to visit. You may want to sample some local goods, if you get the chance. Then there’s the Duché d’Uzès, which is quite old, which dominates the skyline. What with its really fascinating mixture of medieval and Renaissance architectural styles?

3. Pont du Gard: A Roman Aqueduct Spectacle
