Top 5 Ópera Food & Drink: A Delicious Review
Finding the perfect spot for a meal or a drink around the gorgeous Ópera Garnier can really be a delightful quest. You get, more or less, an array of choices, but that, too, means wading through tourist traps. So, that’s why I’ve put together this review of five places that offer something truly special. It’s actually all about experiences that locals might appreciate as much as visitors.
1. Café de la Paix: A Parisian Icon
The Café de la Paix actually sits right next to the Ópera Garnier. Very, very few places have that history steeped inside their walls. Established way back when, in 1862, its Belle Époque decor and terrace provide a view of the opera house that is simply priceless. It almost feels like you’re stepping back into a bygone era. You might recognize it, since it starred in quite a few movies and TV shows. You can almost taste the glamor! A little bit pricey? It might be, sure, but for that unparalleled ambiance and people-watching opportunities, is that really such a problem?
What to Order: If you visit, the onion soup is just so incredibly hearty and flavorful, perfect on a chilly Paris day. Or perhaps you might like a classic Croque Monsieur, so rich and satisfying. Oh, and that’s not all. You will very, very, very likely want to savor one of their pastries. A truly scrumptious end to any meal.
Why it’s Special: It tends to be, often, that location, location, location! But, too, the sense of history that permeates this iconic café. Plus, apparently, you get to feel like you’re part of a movie scene.

2. Le Fumoir: Books and Bistro Fare
Le Fumoir, you see, is just a short stroll from the Ópera. Its got that sophisticated vibe and a fantastic location right by the Louvre. It might be that you enjoy escaping the crowds for a moment. Or perhaps unwind with good food and a unique atmosphere. Inside, a library-themed décor makes for cozy nooks, great, great, great for a quiet meal or just for drinks. In some respects it’s got the appeal of your favorite armchair and a fantastic bistro all rolled into one.
What to Order: The menu actually has this international flair, offering everything from succulent burgers to vibrant salads and tasty Asian-inspired dishes. Try the cocktails! The bartenders, you know, seem to have some talent in that regard.
Why it’s Special: Its proximity to museums makes it a good pit stop, actually, but mostly it is because it combines that intellectual atmosphere with bistro comfort. Is that what people call “having your cake and eating it too?”

3. Angelina: Sweet Sensations
Angelina tends to be, often, just a short walk away from the Ópera. So, the tea room is basically a Paris institution. If you happen to have a sweet tooth, you’re in for such a treat. The ornate décor, really, seems designed to make you feel special as you indulge in some of the city’s best desserts. It’s almost an experience in pure decadence, basically.
What to Order: This, honestly, goes without saying: the “chocolat chaud l’Africain.” Now that thing is seriously famous for good reason! It’s so richly divine, served with whipped cream. Very delicious, in fact! Also, give the Mont-Blanc pastry a try! Apparently, it’s a delightful combination of meringue, cream, and chestnut paste that’s worth every calorie.
Why it’s Special: If it is one thing, it’s that rich, traditional atmosphere combined with really unparalleled pastries and hot chocolate makes it, I think, the sweetest escape from the busy streets of Paris.

4. Bouillon Chartier: Classic French on a Budget
Bouillon Chartier isn’t actually quite on the doorstep of the Opera Garnier. It has, over time, developed quite the reputation. And rightly so! You can usually find tourists eating next to locals, actually taking it all in, shoulder to shoulder in this historical spot. This place, basically, has become pretty darn famous for dishing out classic French fare. Best of all, so you can savor Paris without having to empty your bank account! This may mean that a line up might be involved but what that really shows is the food really is top notch!.
What to Order: If it were up to me, you’d get started with some snails, and maybe a steak frites (steak with fries). Also, have a look at the dessert menu. It tends to have these delicious classics, just perfect to end on a high note without stretching your budget too far.
Why it’s Special: The combination of super affordable prices, super tasty classic French food, and historic setting gives, you know, a very accessible slice of Parisian dining. What could be more “Paris?”

5. Sizin: A Turkish Delight
Sizin actually offers a unique change if it is international cuisine you crave, basically located not too far from the Opéra Garnier. Sizin dishes out really scrumptious Turkish flavors. Think you want kebab? Is it something, anyway, beyond the ordinary? This spot makes for a cozy little haven, actually offering both authentic dishes and a very warm atmosphere. Basically, this one is a culinary escape from the regular Parisian places.
What to Order: The mixed grill, it tends to be, lets you sample a variety of kebabs and meats. They almost burst with those fantastic spices! Or, give the homemade manti a whirl, so small dumplings filled with meat and yogurt sauce, if that is something that makes you excited. So delicious!
Why it’s Special: Sizin shows, more or less, the diversity of Paris’s culinary scene. Basically, the change of pace combined with that authentic Turkish tastes might make your meal there a truly memorable experience.
