I will walk you through five amazing car tours that, in a way, really show you why this corner of Norway is very special.

1. The Classic Rosendal Fjord Route

First, let’s get into the Classic Rosendal Fjord Route, that’s very, very like taking a scenic tour directly out of a postcard. This path hugs the shore of the Hardangerfjord, one of Norway’s longest and most beautiful fjords. So, that manor is pretty interesting with these fancy gardens, and the drive that gets you there passes through very pretty parts of Rosendal.

  • Baroniet Rosendal: This historic manor and its beautiful gardens are an actual must-see.
  • Scenic Farmlands: You will pass through fields and farms that offer a glimpse into rural Norway. As I was saying, a beautiful experience indeed!

Actually, it’s a little longer drive from Rosendal, and parts of it are on narrower, windier roads, that does make the place special.

  • Lake Blådalen: As you get to this gorgeous lake, it just so looks like the world quiets down, doesn’t it? Bring a picnic to totally take in the calm vibe.

This route requires driving a little from Rosendal initially but definitely takes you on an incredible tour along the Åkrafjorden. I mean, you’ll get waterfalls and towering mountains. The biggest attraction has to be the Langfoss waterfall. Some folks claim that it is one of the finest waterfalls on earth.

Highlights:

  • Langfoss Waterfall: Quite one of the most dramatic waterfalls that will make you stop in your tracks. You know, it cascades down a cliff face into the fjord, creating an incredible display.
  • Åkrafjorden: It’s often not crowded, unlike its sister fjords that lets you appreciate the silence that is truly special to see
  • Hiking trails: This region has hiking trails close to the fjord and through lush woodland, so you can actually stretch out.

I was once lucky enough to tour the region after quite heavy rains. What that did for me was to let Langfoss look its absolute best and really roaring with tons of water. I can assure you, this route that, it’s something for folks seeking pure raw natural charm away from, as a matter of fact, the regular tourist tracks.

5. Hardanger National Park Drive
